Mompou is a delight with Brazilian rhythms and an amazing array of small and large plates you cannot go wrong. We always start off with a cocktail and a few small plates and see where the moods take us.

The background music is a mix of live and recorded fare but always setting a chill ambiance for the crowd.

We've been there as a couple and with friends and have found the wait staff to be professional and relaxed. You can control the pacing of the meal if you like or leave it to the kitchen but either way you wont leave hungry.

If you remember, order the lamb chops and you'll not be disappointed. Although my experience has been whatever is ordered will be delicious.

Does anyone know that Frederic Mompou was a wonderful Spanish/Catalan Composer of piano music who lived until not long ago? I do because I am a piano player, and all I needed was one recommendation to go there and explore...the food! Of course in Spain, tapas are free when you order your beer or whatever, I still don't know how they do this because I would be happy with a meal of just tapas. Here of course they are on the menu, as many other creative and "nouveau" specialties inspired by the Latin, the European, and the American cuisines. Who knew there was a "ropa vieja" sandwich?

Being in the Portuguese section of Newark, the wine selection was also very good.

We have visited Mompou with our company many times, including holiday dinner in the private room downstairs. It never disappoints! Friendly and helpful staff are always there to greet us. Delicious tapas (best spanish sausage around!) and great drinks! Highly recommended if you are visiting Newark!

A long overdue visit to Newark, New Jersey, home of my birth, and public schooling for College. Forty (40 ) years had elapsed. Reclaiming earlier years Ferry Street food was a most! I entered Mompou...Steve, the owner is "THE BEST". We ate, drank, reminisced, Crab Salad, Grilled octopus, & Lamb Chops are " HEAVENLY " .

After visiting the Newark Museum, ten friends gathered at this trendy tapas bar in the Ironbound section of Newark. Parking is a premium, but it is a short walk from Penn Station-Newark. Our servers were excellent, recommending various tapas to try. Our favorites were the PIQUILLO RELLENOS, the ALBONDIGAS DE POLLO, and the
TXISTORRA. The chorizo tapas was rather pedestrian compared to the other tapas ordered. We also shared a grilled octopus dish that was wonderfully seasoned. The sangria was a hit as well as the coconut flan for dessert. Great atmosphere! Reservations definitely required unless sitting at the bar.
