“Great Soul Food and Jazz”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 23, 2014

Did a second trip last month and we had a great evening. The food is very tasty and plentiful on the plate. The live jazz with Tommie Grice and Clifford Adams was hot. There is always an upscale crowd and the drinks are very nice. Make reservations well in advance. New brunswick parking is aggravating as usual but I dropped everyone off at the door and parked in a garage about three blocks away. Better than NYC or Philly though.

“After all these years, still one of the best...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 21, 2014

When I lived in New Jersey, this was the place to go and be seen. It also was the place for great southern food and ambience. I took my beau here before a play at the Crossroads Theater the other night, and it was just as perfect as back in the day. The hostess, as well as our waitress, were exceptionally courteous. I had the fried chicken, sweet potatoes and collards. Delish! I definately need to get back here more often. There is constant entertainment, so check the website to see what's happening on what night. A must do!

“Amateur Hour”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 2, 2014

This was our third visit to Deltas. It was also amateur hour that evening. No attention from front desk/coat check, cocktails that arrived after the appetizers were served, bartenders who don’t know classic drink names and cannot mix them properly. Lukewarm gumbo, cold espresso… we clearly got them on a bad night.

We should have known! When we entered, there was a delivery guy dropping off a franchise sandwich order to some of the employees!

All told, the kitchen prep was very good and everyone enjoyed their meals (the temperature of the gumbo not withstanding). Desserts selection was limited but what we ordered was actually very good. But they lost selling a bottle of wine because of the incompetent bar.

But what really upset us… they had a priced fixed menu that night because of New Year’s Eve. Not a special menu, no new or unusual menu items, just excerpts from their regular menu and a promise of a glass of Champagne (which we never received) all for only $55 per person! And they forced a 20% tip on top of food and liquor, despite the appalling service, at 7:30 in the evening!

Delta’s is a nice place but they need to hire a consultant. Maybe an outside perspective can get management to recognize their issues with training and attitude.

“wouldn't go again”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 30, 2013 credit card Amex Card Member Review

Went for a friend's outing. It's right in the middle of college vile (Rutgers). Initially it seemed like there is no parking and the valet line was ridiculous, but there is a parking garage a short block away, $6 to park. A large party was expected and 3 showed late. Instead if seating us at the reserved table anyway (there were still 14 of us), the split us up into 2 separate tables. When the late strivers came, that made 3 tables. It was very awkward and we could not mingle with ppl from the other tables. The waitress was horrible, we waited forever for everything. The food was ok, I have definitely had better: overpriced comfort food. The live band was a nice touch and would have salvaged some of the night, but when I heard that there is a cancellation fee because 3 ppl out if 17 didn't arrive on time, that was it. They won't be seeing me again.

“Good, as usual”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 1, 2013

I've been to Delta's several times previously and enjoyed it tonight just as I always do. The food is delicious and our server tonight, Monique, was wonderful! They have a promotion called Tini Tuesdays were they offer select martinis for $5.00. A nice touch was that they donate the proceeds of every purchase of a Pink Diamond martini to breast cancer research during the month of October. The only disappointment was that they no longer offer the live R & B band on Tuesdays. Instead there was a DJ. We enjoyed the music, but I was really looking forward to the live band.

Delta's is a Southern Food restaurant but draws a diverse crowd. All races and ages come here for the great food and cool atmosphere. I will definitely be back.
