“awful food, bad service”

Brick Lane Curry House

I tried this place a few times, hopeful to find a good Indian restaurant in Montclair. Unfortunately the chicken in the Chicken Sag was tough and overcooked, and the sauce bland. Same problem with other chicken dishes. I found the service to vary from indifferent to rude, but never good.

Our family has eaten at Brick Lane 6-7 times since they have opened and the food is consistently excellent. They have choices for every palate. The specialties are quite good (we have had both the sizzlers) but we tend to stay with the curry where you pick a base (chicken, lamb, fish, goat, shrimp, tofu or veggie) and then choose the curry sauce to go along with it. We have not tried every combination yet we have tried all of the curries (except for the ever dangerous Phaal - which we read with amusement every time we are there.) Our favorites are Bhuna, Goan, Korma and Butter Marsala. We also like the Naan (garlic and rosemary) as well as the Biryani (basmat rice with tomatoes, onions). We always bring our 12 year old son who really enjoys variety. We each order a different entree and swich around so we can all sample different dishes. Brick Lane is BYO and while it is not inexpensive is a good value given the portion size (you can order 3 entrees for 4 people anf have plenty of food) and quality. The only slight negative is that the restaurant is quite small with on street parking so we tend to avoid the weekends.

What a terrific addition to the Montclair restaurant scene! I keep coming back to this cosy restaurant because of the authentic, well prepared food and the quiet yet attentive service. They offer a nice $10 lunch special with a choice of curries, two veggies, naan, rice and a small dessert. You will not go away hungry, with perfectly sized portions. So yummy!!

MY husband and I have had lunch here about 4 times since it opened. It never disappoints. The wait staff is professional and friendly. The food is fresh and well prepared and the portions are just right. They'll make it as spicy hot as you can stand it! Wonderful little place.

I love Indian food, but finding a good local place has been a long frustration. Not any more. Their chicken tikka is amazing. Spicier than some may be used to, the fare kept me and my family murmuring yummy sounds all meal long.
