We were looking for a restaurant to celebrate the winter birthdays. After some research, one friend suggested La Cushina. None of us had been there. Since we were a party of 8 we were able to make a reservation so we were seated quickly. At that point time seemed to slow down. It took a while for the waitress to come by with menus and tell us the specials. A while later we put in an order for appetizers. Again a delay before the dinner order was taken. One issue - you couldn't substitute a Caesar salad for the house salad, even with an upcharge. Luckily, the food was very good and flavorful. Portions were large and reasonably priced.

We will probably return to La Cushina but hope the service will be quicker next time.

We first ate at La Cashina a year ago, recommended by friends. It was OK and we thought we'd visit for my wife's birthday this time. The two rooms had an attractive Mediterranean decor.

Unless you have a party of at least 6 for reservations, there will be at least a 30 minute wait, tolerable if the dining is great. In this case, the dining was not great and barely good. There is no waiting area so you'll have to stand at the counter and expect to be shuffled around while the servers go by getting beverages, menus, and ringing up checks.

The fried calamari rings were not crispy. The Caeser salad was OK but the dressing was too watery. Bread was toasted on one side. We brought wine to celebrate, it's a BYOB.

My fettuccine saporite was a thick blend of egg noodles with ground pork sausage and porcini mushrooms in a pink cream sauce. Sounded great on menu but noodles were doughy and I couldn't enjoy the whole thing. My son's veal parm was returned. My wife had a chicken parm that was OK. My daughter's shrimp with pasta was tasteless. So much for the good news.

Service was poor. It took 30 minutes to get the first appetizer on our table and another 30 minutes to get the entres delivered. Getting bread, ice, and water was by request only. One measure I have of service is how often they check the table for water refills. Nada.

We skipped dessert (as good as they looked) even for a birthday and opted to pick up a cake on the way home. Good decision.

La Cashina has great potential if they could get their service and kitchen staff to work together and if they hired another cook who took more pride in quality. Sorry and sadly, no return visits here.

This little family run restaurant is truly a rare find. If it's a great lunch menu you're looking for you can't go wrong with this local gem. Variety, price and quality make this one a definite repeat for us. Whether it's lunch for two or ten, you'll be treated like family.
