Since Benissimo opened in Madison abouto 9 months ago, my husband and I eat here 2-3 times each week (yes, we eat out a lot). The food is excellent made with quality and fresh ingredients. The owner, Nick, and his son, Ricardo, make every dinner a special experience. Favorites include chicken scarpiello, asparagus, tomato and mozzarella salad and penne ala vodka with asparagus or peas. My husband loves the shirmp francese over spinach among many other dishes.
Highly recommend you try it if you're in the Madison, NJ area!

My sister in law, who is Italian, raves about this restaurant so we celebrated her birthday dinner here. Fantastic idea! Excellent food, attentive service, creative menu, warm decor, just an overall exceptional place. Before appetizers, olives, parmesan cheese and crisp warm bread are brought out along with olive oil. For appetizers we started with an arugula salad with goat cheese & shaved fennel that was very plentiful, a salmon tartare topped with pesto which was refreshing, and a fried zuchinni blossoms stuffed with goat cheese and a pesto cream sauce. OMG it was fabulous and shows a real Italian owns and cooks here! For dinner the group had veal osso bucco over mushroom risotto which was tender and tasty, stuffed chicken breast with cheese, lasagna bolognese and my favorite for creativity, a rissoto with shrimp and honeydew melon - fresh taste for a summer evening. All dishes were delicious! And for dessert the pistachio nut cake, a riccotta cake and berries with cream all so decadent after a great meal. All the time, service was perfect; there when you needed them and respectful of your privacy when you were talking. Nicola is a gem and what a friendly person who makes sure all guests are happy. Definitely the place to go for Italian in Madison.

So glad Nick is here! We've always eaten at his place in Little Falls when we had lived in Essex county. Recently while researching restaurants we found him here! Had eaten there this week and still as good as we remembered. Authentic Italian cooking-not pizza pallor food. Good vegetable additions and fresh seasonings instead of more oil and salt. Special sauces for different dishes, definitely not a 'one sauce fits all' kind of place. He has interesting specials as well like Tripe and Ostrich

Nicola Moncada used to own Due Nicola in Little Falls, NJ and then Il Cinghalle in Little Ferry. His newest spot is this terrific BYOB in Madison, NJ. You can always count on him to provide fresh and delectable dishes, many based on his native Sicily. Spaghetti Carbonara, Spaghetti con Lentiche (lentils) are but two of my favorite pasta dishes. His wild boar, be it with pasta or roasted is always a treat.

The Benissimo Restaurant located at 4 Park Avenue, Madison, NJ is a pleasant new addition to the large group of Madison restaurants. This family owned business moved here from Bergen County where their former restaurant fell victim to Hurricane Sandy. From the moment we entered the restaurant we were warmly greeted by the owner Nicola, his daughter and son. We were a group of six for dinner. We shared 2 rice balls, baccala salad, and special fried sausage, onions peppers and potato appetizers. For my main course I selected the Risotto with grilled shrimp and asparagus. My wife had the Veal Ossobuco. All of the main courses were outstanding. We went on Saturday evening so it was busy. On Wednesdays there is live jazz playing. I recommend that you call for reservations.
