“Great Italian food in New Jersey”
Reviewed October 6, 2012

Gelone is a really good locally-owned restaurant with a pleasant ambiance and a very appealing Early Bird Special 4:30-6:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday: $15.95 for a three-course dinner. First-course choices included mussels marinara (about 2 dozen) and bruschetta (four pieces heaped with nicely seasoned chopped tomato mixture) as well as soup and salad selections. For the main course we tried pollo (chicken) marsala and veal Sorrentino, both nicely prepared, flavorful, and served with perfectly cooked fresh green beans and half a roasted potato. Dessert choices included a fabulous toasted almond cake, tiramisu, ice cream. Coffee or tea is included.
Many of the diners on a Tuesday evening were repeat local guests who, knowing this is a BYOB restaurant, entered with bottles of wine for the waitstaff to open and serve. Servers were friendly, knowledgeable, attentive, and worked as a team. Portions are generous: many diiners took food home.
The regular menu offers more selections than the early bird fixed price menu, including vegetarian entrees. If you are in this part of New Jersey, there is no need to go into New York City for a good Italian dinner.
