“Expensive for what you get”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 19, 2013

We ate here on a Saturday night. Oysters as starter were very good; fresh and tasty. Mains were average, at best. Grilled octopus (special) was tasty, but small portion. Pappardelle pasta was not so good. The pasta was all stuck together in the plate, making the dish unappealing. The steak was OK - average (not Ruth Chris; more like a good diner steak). Shrimp pasta good. Shrimp were large and pasta was well cooked. Overall, an average meal at an above average price. The summary comment is that Nero Grill is like the Marco Polo (in Summit) of Livingston - just more expensive.

“Mediocre”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 2, 2012

We had dinner here on Friday night for a retirement party. The price that was charged per person was $50, this included the food, tax and a tip. It included a small salad that was tasty, and a choice of salmon, chicken or pasta. The salmon and chicken came with mashed potatos and broccoli. The joke at the table was, what did they use to serve the potatos with, a teaspoon? There were 4 small florets of broccoli. My salmon was okay, over done but had a nice mustard sauce. The chicken was dry, my husband said. There was dessert but we did not stay. The most appalling part was the $19 Manhattan that my husband ordered, they advertise in NJ Mothly that they serve large drinks. It was made from Bullet bourbon, wihich is a call brand but nothing outrageous, it was served in a tiny glass, the size we usually get if we split a drink. The wine was good but expensive per glass. I am so glad that I did not pick the place for the party because I would have been infuriated and embarrased.

“Manggia!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 26, 2012

Nero's is a small local restaurant in Livingston, New Jersey. Basically, I couldn't care less what a restaurant has by way of ambiance. What I want is a good meal for a reasonable price. Good service and a friendly atmosphere. That's Nero's.

“Can't get rid of the smoky smell”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 29, 2012

I refuse to eat here anymore since the smell of stale cigarette smoke pervades the wood paneled walls. This has been the case for several years; I wish they'd remodel soon.

“Avoid this place”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 23, 2012 via mobile

We were seated quickly, but waiting about 20 minutes to get menus even after getting the attention of multiple members of the waitstaff. We received our food somewhat quickly. The salmon was raw in the middle. The ahi tuna wasn't bad, but it wasn't that great either. The only compensation we received for the raw fish was a dessert on the house and a very expensive bill.
