“So very average, it's cliche”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 14, 2013

It's an attempt to be like a Manhattan or Brooklyn Jewish style deli. The curt service is there without the flare because the wait staff appears not to really be Jewish. The atmosphere is ok...just the right amount of tenement kitchen but too big. The food, however, is inconsistent. The last time I was there the pastrami sandwich was dry and the rye bread was at least a day old, judging by its dryness. I'm not going back.

“Could be so much better”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 18, 2013

The food here is really great but the place seems institutional, the staff are unfriendly and although it seems to be clean for some reason I feel it's got issues.

I would love this place to be amazing, but unfortunately like so many Kosher-Style Delis, they live in the past and run it like it was some dining room in a decrepit resort.

“Jewish-style deli with large portions”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 27, 2012

Good corned beef and pastrami. Expensive for standard deli food but consistently good. Atmosphere is diner-style with booths and tables. Best homemade coleslaw and pickles in the area.

“Pretty good deli - prices too high and owner socially inept (to put it kindly)”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 11, 2012

Eppes Essen has good deli sandwiches, good rye bread, pickles, etc.

However, the prices are beyond ridiculous. A light side, which is a smaller-sized sandwich and a soup, is like 15-16 bucks. Give me a break. Chicken hero with cheese, peppers and onions, for like 14-15 bucks - are you kidding me?

Service is a joke - but it's not the fault of the workers, they're probably getting paid nothing more than the minimum wage.

The fault is that of the owner. The owner of this place, don't know his name (balding, goatee), has got to be one of the most pompous, arrogant, egotistical people I've ever met. I have no skin in the game, by the way.

You can tell that he cares only about the almighty dollar. It is plainly obvious - it's painfully obvious - that he does not care about his customers or his employees. I can't imagine having to work for someone like this.
