We went to Siam this Sunday night for dinner. It was bad. We started with squid salad. The "salad" was once piece of lettuce and onions. The squid was warm! It had obviously been frozen and quickly thawed in the microwave. A tiny bit of spice was sprinkled on it but not enough to cover the taste of seafood that was far from fresh. The ice tea had a strong taste of tannin as if the tea bags were left in too long. The chicken curry tasted sweet and was mildly spiced although the menu said it was suppose to be spicy. The worst dish was the duck with pineapple. It was very sweet with a thick brown sauce that probably came out of jar like in many cheap Chinese restaurants. It was a mistake to order it because we should have known that was not a Thai dish. It had baby corn in it not at all a Thai ingredient. We speculate that they must have a Chinese chef now because it was not authentic Thai food. The coconut pudding had this overly sweet sauce on it. To top it off they don't take credit cards. Luckily we had just enough cash to pay the bill. Who else doesn't take credit cards in this upper class trendy town?
I remember coming here several times many years ago. It was a wonderful restaurant then. We had tried several other times to come over the years and they were always fully booked so we stopped trying to go. We happened to drive by today and El Tulle, our favorite restaurant which is next door was closed. We went into Siam instead and it was nearly empty at 5:30. That should have been our clue that something had changed. It was nothing like the wonderful restaurant we remembered. We will stick to El Tulle and won't be going back to Siam.
