We booked the restaurant for a group of 18 people for our mother's 90 year old birthday. We figured it would be a reasonable amount of choices for people, but nothing too lavish and expensive. This fit the bill as our bill was about $600; a little over $30/person.
we were in a back room that was semi private (another group was there on the other side of a moveable barrier). the room was dark and drab and no decorations. If we knew that we would have brought something to brighten it up a bit. So that was a bit dull.
We called ahead and I did not like how I was dealt with on the phone. I called several times to adjust the number of guests and spoke to a Manager and I felt with this large group we would have a bit of attention to details. I wanted to make sure we all could talk to each other while the party was there. As it were, there were two tables and really couldn't converse with the other table. I think they could have made more effort in set up to allow more of a social setting as I had requested.
I met with the server when I first got there. About 6 of our party had gotten lost and were 45 minutes late. She was helpful in the beginning but as the evening went on we could not find her or anyone else. I think they had given her tables in the main diining room and she was busy there. I would have thought again that we would have had more concern shown us. The Manager (who I had spoken with when I made the reservation) showed up when we were all about to leave and asked if everything was okay. It would have been nice if he showed his face when we got there and a few times while we were dining. We needed water and no refills were given. We wanted more drinks and no one was around to help. We were brought the birthday cake (we had purchased and brought with us) and handed a steak knife and the waitress said she would be back to cut it and she disappeared. I figures she was getting a proper knife. We waited so I got up and cut it without the correct utensils. she never came back with a knife. also, during the dinner service, one of our guests did not get their entrée until 15 minutes after we all had ours. we couldn't find the waitress of a manager to help with that. No one came after the food was delivered to ask if we needed anything more.
Charlie Brown's has been around for years. They have a decent salad bar (not great but decent) and their meat is choice grade. They come with a side and most got baked potatoes. They have other choices like chicken and fish too. With that said, the entrees were good. We had group appetizers of shrimp and calamari which were enjoyed by the crowd.
All in all we had a nice evening but it wasn't perfect and there were glitches. The staff overall (except the front desk young girls) were all friendly; just not able to be found by us!
