“Nice hotel, very convenient location”
Reviewed October 17, 2012

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights in September, 2012 while visiting family and seeing the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. The area around the hotel seemed safe - though the only walking around we did was to go to the Chilis 2 blocks away for dinner. The rooms were very nice and the free breakfast was very good.
Driving in New Jersey (and New York) is fairly stressful if you are not used to it, so when we arrived we were fairly stressed out and rethinking our decision to add this part of our trip... When we asked the front desk what the easiest way was to get to Liberty State Park for our ferry trip the following morning, they suggested a taxi... We took them up on their idea and were pleasantly surprised the next morning to find that it was actually a private car... For $20 each way we were taken directly to the ferry location, and the driver even gave us his cell phone number so when we were on the ferry coming back, we called him and he was waiting for us when we disembarked the ferry. Not having to deal with the stress of driving was well worth that cost and we were very grateful to the hotel staff for suggesting it.
We did not venture into Manhattan, but could see it right across the river.. so I imagine this hotel would be very convenient for sightseeing over there also.

I booked a full city view at this place. Not bad, room came with tv, air con, bathtub, coffee and tea. Very nice, receptionist was friendly, 5 minutes walk to Path to New york. I liked the area, you can get to New York in half an hour. Doesn't have much parking for temporary stops had to pay 10 dollars to park it there for a while which was illogical but all in all the city view was nice, the bed... simply awesome

Room Tip: 1 thing to remember this stop is also called Pavonia! not just Newark sheesh! not sure why they did...

DoubleTree in Jersey City is in a prime location for visiting Manhattan. There is a Path station a block down the street which takes you directly into the city within 5-10 minutes. The rooms at the hotel are average, very clean and comfortable. The pillows are the softest you will ever find! Yet, above all this, the reason for my 5 star rating is the service we received at the front desk from Felix. He was extremely friendly, helpful with finding us transportation to/from Metlife Stadium and the airport, helped us with our bags, and gave some great advice on finding the best Bakery in NYC. I can't recommend this hotel enough!

I booked our room for this trip in late August to come to New York City for the commissioning of the USS Michael Murphy. My sister in law and I decided to split a room to help with the cost and since we were paying 1/2 each (thus saving a lot of money) we decided to go with the premium suite with city views, two double beds and a pull out. There were 6 of us, 2 adults and 4 kids. When we got there to check in and went to our room on the 5th floor we did not have a city view room. Maybe partial city view (which you can get for less than what we were paying). We had a view of the building across the street with a few skyscrapers peeking out above it. No river, no gorgeous skyline. Our other window had a lovely concrete building view. So, after speaking to the front desk we were told that our only other option was a king suite with a pull out and a rollaway. Not ideal but it was on the 12th floor and the view was spectacular. Definitely worth it to make it work.

Conveniently located to the PATH train, the only down side is it really is not convenient to run back to the hotel for anything. One of our people realized that they really did need their stroller and ended up just buying a new one.

The car service was very convenient friendly, and much less scary than the NYC taxi drivers. The lady at the front desk seemed unhappy any time we needed to speak with her. The breakfast was great, however found out on day 2 that if you ordered the buffet, you could special order eggs. Our waitress never told us, we happen to overhear another waitress tell her table.

Overall a lovely trip, great time. Would definitely stay again.

We stayed here on the first night of our holiday as didn't want to stay in the Manhatten and spend the money on a hotel room.

We drove from JFK to the hotel and it was easy to find with adequate parking. We had requested views of Manhatten and it was lovely to see the skyline from a different side as normally see it from the east.

Our rooms were huge with a great size bed, separate lounge, two tv's, large bathroom and coffee machine with fridge. We had everything we needed and had a very comfortable nights sleep.

We wandered around the mariner and our toddler enjoyed playing on a little park we found. We didn't eat in the hotel but got the PATH north to Hoboken as we had heard of it from the tv show Carlo's Bakery. We couldn't believe the size of the queue to go in the bakery!

The area was lovely and felt very safe. We had loads of restaurants to choose from and a really nice creamery that we visited for a great concoction of ice cream. We were then able to watch the sunset over Manhatten which was great. The ride was not very long and there was a station immediately behind the hotel which was convenient.

Across from the hotel was a little mall and we drove for breakfast in the morning a few blocks away to a place featured on Diners, Driveins and Dives which did a fantastic breakfast.

The whole area was lovely and we would definitely return and access Manhatten via train rather than staying in the city.

Room was okay and the overall hotel atmosphere is also okay. The hotel was very busy when I was there and the elevators were abysmally slow. Overall the location of the hotel is great with easy access to the PATH, but for the price I would have expected something a little nicer (even in NYC).

thanks for your post and do apologize for the delays you may have experienced waiting for the elevators. Though not a common complaint, I have witnessed a bit of a back up at peak times - especially when larger groups are in house and departing at the same time. Hope to see you return and that the rest of your stay was enjoyable.

Stayed five nights in this hotel, which is close to shopping, marine and good restaurants as well as public transport. The service was friendly.

A place I will return to should I come to Jersey City again.

Highly recommendable !

Room Tip: I stayed in room 1008 - very nice with good views
