“Good Hotel”

The hotel is fairly priced and have lovely pastries for breakfast (if that's your kinda thing). The rooms are neat and spacious.

Getting in and out of manhattan is easy if you stick to the PATH train time table. Outside of that it gets incredibly expensive as taxis add 40dollars to the fair just to go through the Holland tunnel.

So yes, can def recommend, but plan your activities carefully not to get caught in Manhatten without a PATH train to get you back to Jersey City.

We looked for a place to stay outside Manhattan that is accessible to Manhattan but not as pricy. The Holland hotel was a good choice. It is located near the entrance to the Holland tunnel. It's 10 minutes walking distance to the nearest PATH station (the train that takes you into Manhattan). The station is right next to Newport Mall, where you can do some shopping which is usually much cheaper than NY (no sales tax on clothing). The train ride itself is about 10 minutes and you're in 33rd street. If you want to continue the ride using NY subway, you need to pay for another ticket (so each way may costs double) as PATH is a different network.
The rooms are fairly simple but clean and satisfying for someone who's just looking for a place to take a shower and sleep after a long day in NY. We took a room on the second floor facing the parking lot (which is more quiet than the rooms facing the main road). Bear in mind that the hotel doesn't have an elevator.
Breakfast is complementary and include pastry, juice and coffee. They don't have a breakfast room, so you either eat standing or take the food to your room.
The hotel is pretty close to Newark airport (some 20-30 minutes drive).
In conclusion, the best option of course is to sleep in Manhattan itself, but if you'd rather pay as half or even third as any 2-star hotel in the city, this is a very good option.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the parking lot are quieter

Stayed here in June 2010 with my family on a trip to NYC. It was lovely to get out of the city at night and be able to view it from across the river and to a quieter location!
Motel was very clean and quiet, free parking and very close to the station so getting to Penn Station in NYC was very easy!
Also close to a great shopping mall in Jersey!
Definitely recommended!

We stayed here for 7 nights in September and had a great time. Check in was quick and friendly. The only concern I had prior to arrival was being so close to the tunnel entrance, our room was at the front where the tunnell was however we had no problem with noise. The view was fantastic and waking up every morning, looking out the window at the Empire State building was fab. The room was spacious, huge bed and very comfortable. The room had a microwave and fridge which was great. Maid service every day and towels changed daily if you so choose. The breakfast was ideal, coffee, OJ, pastries and cereal and coffee available all day. There is even a laptop in the lobby which you can use to print things, boarding passes etc. Our room had a safe and free wi fi in the entire hotel. Also hairdryer provided which was powerful so need to take one with you. The hotel is about a 5-10 min walk away from the PATH station which takes you directly into Manhattan in about 15-20 mins (cut through the shopping centre carpark then the mall to get to the PATH station) There is a 24 hour Burger King right next to the hotel, a garage (which has a Dunkin Donuts) and a large supermarket is about 2 blocks away. The Newport Mall which is 5 mins fromt he hotel has lots of shops, large foodcourt and a cinema. I recommend walking to the waterfront which is near the PATH station, fantastic views of Manhattan! There are also restaurants near the PATH station however we didn't try any of these. There is also free parking for those who are driving.

Overall I loved this hotel, its location and comfort and fraction the price you would pay in Manhattan, I would absolutely stay here again if I was ever to go back to New York.

Room Tip: We were at the front, if you want good views ask for this and we never had a problem with noise. I t...

We chose to stay here and travel to Manhattan each day because of the cost. Staff were very helpful and friendly. We had aroom with 2 double beds and for the 4 night stay it was cosy but very workable for the 4 of us.Brekky was very good, walk to Path took us 20min as we are quite slow but it is easy walking. We booked a car to take us to Pier 83[$50] and also to JFK when leaving[$90} however public transport will get you to both destinations.Would stay again.

Good hotel found in a period when in Manhattan hotel were more expensive than in other periods (9/11). Just out of the Holland Tunnel, 100m from the Path Station (trains to Manhattan, 6-7 min. to WTC and 10 min to 33rd Str.). I staied over there for three nights with my family, 4 people, and with an other family of friends with 3 children (5 all in an other room). Good price, 5 dollars + taxes for one extra bed in room for 5. Good service, clean but with a very small space for breakfast at the reception. However it's possible to use a tray available in room for bringing breakfast over there.

Room Tip: Rooms on the parking side are quieter.

I loved that we chose to stay at this hotel. The fact that it had breakfast and wifi was great. The room was perfect for what we needed. Our room had a little of a smell to it but we believed it was the air conditioner. We were directly facing the road side and there was no noise whatsoever. We were afraid of this at the beginning but it was perfect. We stayed for 3 nights and every day we got clean towels, new soap, shampoo etc.
Love how parking is free in most places in Jersey. I would have thought that being so close to Manhattan parking would be a rape. The hotel parking was obviously free which is another big plus.
Every place has its negatives to it so in my opinion I will say that there was no note pad or pen in the room. The breakfast is nice but the space is so limited that the front reception gets packed in the morning with people trying to have breakfast. We would just go grab a few things and go back to our room. If you don't like what they have for breakfast they do have a grocery store 2 blocks away, you could walk to it. Another thing is that you cant use the phone in your room to call anywhere but within the hotel. You get an activation charge of about $1 and .75 cents charge to call within Jersey etc... We found our selves wanting to call a lot but this was a hold back. In the end you could just use Skype to call places since they have wifi.

The PATH(port authority of new york and new jersey) station is 5-10 min walk from the hotel. This station is to the right of the Marriott hotel. There are some really nice restaurants around PATH station which you could also walk to if you find your self hungry and do not feel like driving around.

The PATH train is 4bux per person round trip. There is no one there to help you get your ticket, you have to get your metro card your self on the machines. This is a great way to move around since otherwise if you drive into Manhattan it will cost you about $12 to cross the Holland tunnel into Manhattan (you don't get charged to go back into Jersey) and parking in Manhattan is about $7.30 per half hour. The PATH train takes about 23 minutes from Newport (the station by the Marriott) to 33rd street. The line for this train would be the Hoboken Line there and back.
This system is super easy to understand and again very economical to get around. Taxis charge about $40-60 flat rate to take you back into Jersey since they have to pay the tunnel fee on their way back.

We took a taxi on the way back since my boyfriend's back was hurting having walked a whole day so he didn't want to wait for the train. We took a taxi back to Jersey and we were able to convince him to bring the fee down to $30. It seemed like he didn't know how close we really were to the bridge so he was skeptic about charging us so little compared to the initial fee he wanted to charge which was $50. Once he saw that our hotel was right on the border of Jersey and Manhattan, he didn't mind us paying $30.

In the end you can negotiate taxi fares from Manhattan to Jersey and so forth, it just seems like the taxi drivers aren't too familiar with the hotel since most likely people just take the PATH back and forth when they are so close to it.

Also the hotel is on the same street as Carlo's Bake Shop so if you love Cake boss you must check him out while you are there since you are soooo close to his bakery.

Overall we would come back and would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Room Tip: Rooms further from the reception area/entrance are better. The hotel is small and other people comin...
