“Great hotel away from the hustle of the City”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 2, 2013

Very good sized rooms, some great views of the City across the Hudson. Good breakfast. A great location - much quieter than staying in the City, but just one stop on the PATH to WTC. There are some good restaurants in Jersey, also the shopping is cheaper as tax is 3.5% compared to 8% in NYC. Worth a visit to the Newport mall which is just a couple of stops on the PATH.

Very nice hotel across the river from NYC. A simple water taxi ride that departs and returns close to the hotel will put you in the city with little effort and no traffic issues. The hotel is comfortable as most Hyatt's are with all the amenities you'd expect. The room was clean and comfie. The only complaint was the channel selection on the cable tv and noise that you could hear from the hall.

Room Tip: pay attention when driving to the hotel. The signage isn't as visible as you would expect and t...

This is going to be one of those mixed reviews. Because all in all the hotel was great. It was very clean, very comfortable. The beds were extremely comfortable. Room service was perfect, service at check in and concierge was top notch, the value for the room we got over Christmas holiday was surprisingly cheap, the pool and gym looked great although we never used it and of course the views you get of lower Manhattan are just unbeatable. They were still doing minor repairs due to the hurricane but nothing that got in the way. Everything is accessible with your room key so it's safe. You couldn't go in and out the river side entry however, but you could easily walk around.
Jersey City is pretty dead at night being a business district. During the weekday, there are plenty of places nearby. But at night or on weekends you had to improvise, plus there are places that deliver. There are a few restaurants in walking distance to sit at however they closed early (before 9pm), but they had this Lisbon Pizza place probably a good 5 blocks or so away, had delicious pizza at a fair price. I would certainly suggest that if you're looking for something late. I
And while location is a great thing with the views and with the PATH when it's working, it's also the downside. When PATH is working and running at normal schedule, it's probably perfect. But with it down, well it's very much a pain in the butt. Exchange Place wasn't open our weekend. So we started by using the light rail to the mall but the mall was too packed. So we started going to Hoboken. But the light rail doesn't run often enough on the weekend, although it does run late enough... 2am I think. The shuttle to PATH seemed feasible but the time we tried, it was packed. So we walked to the light rail again. Nevermind, the PATH coming from Newark was always packed. Atleast from Hoboken it was empty. The PATH was also super slow due to repairs being done. Eventually we resorted to car service, which I will say was very good. The drivers were wonderful and as fast as you could probably get in NYC. It cost a small fortune though ($80-$120). But if you need car service, by all means, use it. They're great.
But after spending a long weekend in the area now, I have to say I see what people are talking about. It's sort of a pain spending 45-75 minutes or more trying to navigate into the city. It's also a pain not being able to get back quickly (you have to plan your return trip) and not being able to hop outside your hotel door and have tons of restaurant and entertainment choices within short walking distance.
So with that in mind, I would say that if you value peace and quiet, if you like a great view, and if you don't care to be in the center of everything, then the Hyatt in Jersey City is a must. If you are someone who could care less about a constant view (because you could just hop a PATH train, cross the river, take some pictures and head back) and desire to be in the middle of it all, you need to bite the money bullet and stay in Manhattan. Trust me.

As far as this Hyatt goes though, I'd say it's the best hotel outside of Manhattan. The only thing I didn't like about the hotel is that it's not in Manhattan. If I were to go back to see a Red Bulls game or visit the Meadowlands or otherwise have business in Jersey, I'd definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Unless you stay in a Manhattan suite, don't splurge between regular rooms and Hudson River rooms...

What a location. Right on the Hudson with magnificent views of Manhattan, the Statue of Liberty and New York Harbor. Plus the PATH subway station is just seconds from the hotel door so you are just a few minutes ride from downtown NYC.

A business district during the day, after 5 most of the area closes down and it's very quiet. Very little traffic and noise and a clean, safe neighborhood.

Room Tip: Shop for deals on off weeks and early or late in the season.

I stayed for 3 nights and accidentally left my iPhone on the dock in the room. After 3 weeks of consistently calling the hotel and asking for an explanation as to why they didn't have my phone (and were the housekeepers questioned) and asking to talk to a manager I had to return overseas empty handed without even an apology.. to my mind this is completely unacceptable and I will not be staying with the Hyatt again. I don't know who employs your security team but they are just as at fault as them for hiring such incompetent rude people.

My family of five stayed at this hotel over the New Year's weekend. We stayed four nights. The hotel was very nice and the staff was extremely helpful and courtious. We got two rooms that were adjoining to accomadate our family of five. What I loved most is that they gave us the second room for half price since it was just needed for the kids. Loved this option for a family of 5!!!
We were greated so politely and felt we got great service. They even sent up a birthday cake to our room on the night of our daughter's 16th birthday.
Beautiful views from our room and from the hotel! We could see the Statue of Liberty from the windows in our room!!! That was amazing. Not to mention that we could see fireworks on New Year's Eve.
We had a delicious New Year's Eve dinner in the "Vu" restaurant in the hotel. From my seat, I could see the new World Trade Center Building, the Empire State Building, and the Statue of Liberty all lit up at night. We also took lots of great pictures right outside of our hotel facing NYC skyline. It was a great and less expensive option then downtown NYC. We took the PATH train every day into the city. Due to Hurricane Sandy, there were some issues with the trains, but the hotel offered us a shuttle to the next closest PATH station four blocks away. I loved that they were proactive about this problem.
We would definitely stay here again.

Great place to stay for business travel and within easy walking distance of the pathway to the World Trade Center and near Goldman Sachs, Lord Abbett, Merrill, etc. Would highly recommend and will stay there again when I travel back to the area!
