I stayed two nights at the Candlewood Suites for a wedding weekend with two other friends because it was a lot cheaper than staying at the Hyatt where the wedding was being held. I was pleasantly surprised. We got a room with a queen sized bed in its own room and a pullout couch in a small living room/ galley kitchen area. This is a great place to stay if you are looking to stay close to the city on a budget. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the immediate area felt safe. Its a short walk to the path train if you want to go into Manhattan and within walking distance to a nearby mall. Our first night there, we were too tired to go into the city after being in a car for 5 hrs, so we took a walk around the neighborhood and had tapas at a nearby Cuban restaurant, then afterwords we walked along the docks. The view on the docks of the Manhattan skyline is beautiful at night! In summary I was very pleased with this hotel, however I went in with low expectations. This was not a fancy hotel at all, but its comfortable, safe, and clean and it was perfect for just a few nights! If you want something more upscale and are willing to pay more than twice the price of Candlewood, then stay at the Hyatt.

Easily accessed from I-78 / Rt. 409 via Washington Blvd. Secured free parking at hotel-sorry spoiled travelers, no $30/night valet. My wife is disabled and we took an accessible room with roll-in shower and accessible lavatory. Kitchen is accessible for wheelchair. Bed is comfortable and you have a choice of pillow types.
Free internet but no business center. Gym is adequate. No restaurant, but has a small store with food, toiletries and the like. They have an "honor" system. SInce the store is not tended to, You write down and submit on paper hat you take adn then it's charged to your room. I've seen people just take items and leave, not even paied for. Great for the deceiving and dishonest. Service and hospitality is above average.
Great location and access toNJ transit light rail, PATH trains and the NY waterway ferry-but was not in operation while we were there. I've heard that the operation was filing for bankruptcy.
Jersey City- at least this portion of town- is clean and apparently safe to stroll around.
Great views of the Hudson and NYC. No crowds. Nearby Newport Mall has plenty of stores for everyone's taste and a food court-but you PAY for parking (2.00).
All in all for under $100, it was reasonable compared to a $200+ night stay in NYC itself.
The hotel is not spectacular by any means, but it serves it's purpose. Probably will go back in the fall.

I was looking for a studio room in Jersey City close to my work place and this was a perfect one and suited my budget well. The studio had a small kitchen on one wall of the room, complete with a micro wave and micro wave dishes (most hotels provide micro wave but hardly any provide dishes), a coffee maker, a good set of utensils and a pair of electric stove. Its an ideal one for people like me who like to cook their own meal. The other items in the room were standard, like tv, refigerator, hair drier, etc. The room heater was a bit noisy. The 24/7 free laundary and Candlewood cupboard were good. The hotel location is excellent. Its at a walkable distance from Exchange Place and Pavonia PATH stations as well as the light rail. The shuttle service of the hotel is prompt on drops but not so on pick ups. At times they forget to pick you up from your location which is annoying. The staff is friendy and cooperative.
Overall I had a very good stay at this hotel.

This hotel is amazing.

Every single staff member has been fantastically polite and helpful in every way possible. For a deposit, our dogs were welcome, and staff members must be fairly adjusted to pets staying, as we haven't felt a bit uncomfortable while walking them outside or taking them in the elevators.

The hotel has an arrangement with a hotel in the same parking lot that allows customers to use the pool, hot tub, gym, and small restaurant. Candlewood does have a gym, a laundry room (free, not coin operated), a small dvd library at the front desk, and a small "Candlewood Cupboard" that serves as a store of microwaveable meals and such. There is a computer and free printer downstairs, should you need to access anything online. This is a very helpful addition. Staff also holds cookouts in the back during some months, according to their sign. Just the other day, staff held a cookout for a ton of workmen that had been staying in the facility. The grill is available to everyone.

Our room was equipped with a full-size refrigerator, dishwasher, dishes, 2 burners, dvd player, large tv, free wireless internet, and a thermostat on the wall-not on the unit like other hotels. While in our room, the only sounds to be heard were slight thumping and sometimes water, but I think we were booked next to a storage room or perhaps just happen to be next to pipes. This is not a complaint-only a mention to those reviews regarding noise. I find it hard to believe anyone can hear others when the air unit and/or tv is on...maybe if you sat in silence your entire trip, but even then we've hardly heard any noise--just the occasional housekeeping cart or the vacuum every now and then.

Rates were spectacular. We traveled across the country and were unable to make the first night of our reservation. When we arrived, our original room had been rented, but the staff upgraded us to a King Suite at NO EXTRA CHARGE, gave us an extended stay discount, and a military discount.

We were/are VERY satisfied with this hotel. The extended stay service may not be for everyone, but some may find it wonderful-especially if you don't enjoy dealing with housekeeping each day. (Housekeeping here has been wonderful thus far.) We've already been here 5 days, and we'll probably be here 10 or 15 more. It's in a safe location, close to a few grocery stores, etc.

I can't say enough about this place. GREAT STAY!

My husband and I travelled from the UK and stayed in the Candlewood suites while visiting family in NJ. The hotel is new and in good repair, though the first room we were given (a studio) the heater was a bit noisy. The desk clerk immediately gave us a different room, and upgraded us to a one bedroom, which was very spacious and tidy! There is no room service or maid service, so if this bothers you it's not the place for you. We weren't bothered by it and found it very economical to shop for basics at a nearby store and cater to ourselves for simple things like tea/coffee & breakfast (expenses that can really add up while travelling!)

An extra added bonus is that they have free washers and dryers so you don't have to take home dirty clothes! The room ammenities are good, there's an iron/ironing board & hair dryer, plus one day's worth of toiletries & kitchen cleaning supplies.

Parking is ample, and there are several major roads/highways nearby.. also shops, restaurants and entertainment - New Brunswick is only a stone-throw away, and New York a short drive or train ride. The staff are helpful and friendly, and after staying in places like the Hyatt for twice the price, I would not hesitate to stay at Candlewood again, it was a great value and great experience!

Ok , so this hotel is where you stay if you can find something in NYC at a reasonable price. The Path train is about 10-15 minute, nice and safe walk, or a 1 minute cab ride (approx $6). There is a shuttle, but it never seems to be operating and the timing is weird (definitely should consider this if walking or cab isn't ideal).

The rooms are oversized and have a small but complete kitchen with all the stuff you need to basically live there...which I think is the idea behind Candlewood Suites. Parking was abundant and FREE! The staff is good to great. Frankly I have no real complaints...oh yeah, the beds are nice for the money too!

I think it would be nice if the shuttle ran later or more often, especially during week days when it doesn't run after 10am or so till the afternoon.

They even have a store! This place is pretty cool and I hope more Candlewood Suites pop up. It's not the Hilton, but I do like the comfy arm chairs, kitchen and store! This is probably good for families who don't need a pool and staying for at least several days and don't want to cook all the time.

Oh yes, there is a supermarket within walking distance...as well as other businesses. I wouldn't make that walk at night unless I had to, but the walk to the Pavonia Path Station is fine since it's on Washington Ave, the main thoroughfare. There is even a nice walk along the water pretty much right there.
