“Modern, clean, comfortable, SPACIOUS, convenient to NYC/PATH station adjacent, almost riverfront, NYC skyline view”
Reviewed January 30, 2012

Debated between Holiday Inn Express 5th Ave. & 45th near Times Square and this hotel. The Holiday Inn TA comments mentioned noise and tiny rooms. Chose this hotel for spaciousness, convenience in driving/parking, and quiet night's sleep. Arrived, via own car, early afternoon the day after Christmas and were greeted by the very personable valet. Our room was ready so we went right up and dropped off our belongings. Then we headed to NYC via the convenient PATH station immediately adjacent to the hotel.

The hotel's kiosk attendants/front desk staff were personable and helpful. Location felt very safe even at 2am when we romped through the charmingly decorated and illuminated Christmas garden behind the hotel just before the riverfront walkway. We walked along the riverfront at 2am taking in the picturesque NYC skyline.

Perfect location across from large indoor mall with theater so we could catch a late night showing of MI4: Ghost Protocol. Cosi is across the street for breakfast and lunch. The hotel lobby also has a Starbucks cafe w/ light fare, but the hours seemed limited?

My three daughters and I had a terrific, but short visit. The hotel was mostly quiet, though we did hear some noise from the room next door as they readied themselves in the am. We slept in and the beds were very comfy and the room cozy. I am a light sleeper and there were no AC/Heating noises.

After checking out, we headed to Hoboken 1 mi. north to visit Carlos' Bakery and the wait to get in was over 3 hrs. Instead, we joined other tourists in taking pics out front. But, we did find a fun overstock shop, Cheap Maggies, right on the main street. Bought good quality college hoodies and NCAA tournament jackets/hoodies for $5 each. The girls found some American Eagle real suede boots for $20/pair. Leather jackets were plentiful and reasonably priced too.

If you want to drive up to NYC and not deal w/ the hassle of driving IN NYC, this is the place to stay. You get the amazing NYC skyline, nearly riverfront location, mall convenience, and easy NYC access via the PATH which lets you out at WTC or 33rd not far from Macy's, Penn Station, Empire State Building. $2.00 each way per person, The only down side to the PATH is that it doesn't run frequently on weekdays. We waited at least 15-20 mins. for the train midday. The trip itself is quite short - 8-12 mins. depending on the stop.

Something we learned about using the NYC subway is that you can only have 2 credit card transactions a day. After being locked out of the automated machine and checking w/ the attendant, he recommended we all 4 share ONE card. I don't know how that would go over during rush hour, but that's what we did - tricky, but doable. I don't like to travel w/ much cash, but that could be an alternative to the credit card limitation if you don't mind carrying the leftover change. I do as I like to travel light. ;-)

We attempted to eat at the well reviewed Brooklyn Diner at 212 W. 57th St. near 7th Ave./Carnegie Hall. After a 15 min. wait, we were somewhat seated. The place is VERY SMALL - customers are sitting on top of one another, w/ no room to put your coat on the back of your chair. Prices were high even for NYC. $15-20 for a hamburger. We opted to leave and go to our usual diner, La Parisienne, at 910 7th Ave. near Central Park/Carnegie Hall (around the corner from Brooklyn Diner) which serves basic but tasty diner food. We again got the Reuben platter ($11) and tried their hot roast beef sandwich w/ gravy ($10) which was tasty. The triple decker club sandwiches looked yummy. We'll be trying those next visit. They are hospitable and the food is decent. http://www.allmenus.com/ny/new-york/113711-la-parisienne/menu/

Travelling w/ a family, this hotel is an excellent choice and makes visiting NYC and Carlos' Bakery much easier and enjoyable. Paid $179 plus tax for 2 queen bed room. I think this was a standard room, but it was quite spacious.

Room Tip: Ask for room w/ NYC view, some of the higher floors have one I'm told.

We stayed here 3 nights pre cruise in May 2011. I was looking for easy access to NYC with out spending a lot of money and this was perfect. We had a king room and it was plenty big enough to never feel cramped and it had a view of the Empire State Building.
The day we arrived the Path was shut down for a while while the president was at Ground Zero but by the time we were ready to go into the city it was back open.
We would stay here again if we ever come back.

Room Tip: ask for room on higher floor with view of NYC

If going to NYC and you want convience then stay here. You can get on the NJ path right next door and be in Time Square, 34th Street or the 9/11 memorial in 15 min and it is only $2 per person each way. The motel is clean and staff is extra nice. You can walk to the river. My daughter and I stayed alone and felt very safe. The price is a lot less expensive than anything in Time Square and the view of Manhatten from the river is amazing. Will definitly stay there the next time we visit

My daughters live in JC and NYC. We stay here whenever we go to visit. It's location right next to the PATH train into the city is super convenient. The hotel itself is clean. The staff is always friendly. Parking is also available. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the area.

Great location and value!

For less than the price of a less than average Manhattan hotel and right across the river (via the 24/7 PATH train system), there's a great and incredibly convenient location to rest after a day (or night) of "doing the town".

This property is literally in front of the Pavonia/Newport PATH station making it even more convenient. It's immaculate and just about brand-spankin' new with an indoor pool and jacuzzi on the ground floor. The room I had was spacious, clean, comfortable and just to my liking!

For shoppers, there's the Newport Mall across the road and other shopping as well (btw, New Jersey doesn't charge sales tax on clothing!) Also within walking distance is a deli, Starbucks and a waterfront view of downtown Manhattan.

Another great factor is it's nice & quiet here, getting away from the noise of downtown NYC. Come to New York City and make this place your restful and enjoyable spot with New York practically at your doorstep!

If you want to be close to NYC but don't want to pay NYC prices and like space, then this is a great option! Great lobby, good location right in Newport close to Newport Mall and the PATH is across the street to have you in NYC in 15 minutes. Clean, cool staff as well.

I stayed at the Courtyard Jersey City 12/16 to 12/17. I am a travel professional. This is the very best option for a visit to NYC, especially for first time travellers with children. The staff has a very very good attitude. No question is stupid to them. They are truly helpful without any eye rolling or condescending answers. They are there if you need directions, advise on the PATH system, anything. Make sure when you pull up to the hotel the kids get everything they need out of the car for the valets to take it to park.$16 a day. My niece left her purse and cell phone and while they were wonderful about getting it for us, it took a while. Get the kids ready to go before you pull up. Check in is a breeze. There was at least 2 agents at the desk at all times. The PATH system is right next door.Buy your metro card right there as you enter. $2 each way so you buy a $4 round trip or whatever you need. Keep your kids card. The ride was 20 mins. each way . You need the 33rd St train. Very easy. We came through JC Penneys in the mall on 34 th st. Easy . Safe . Clean . Boom you are on W 34th st. Safe area for returning to the hotel late that night. Our overnight stay was quiet. Bathroom is very serviceable. Toilet and shower are separate. Blow dryer is high wattage. 4 Pillows on the King bed. Clean bedding. Check out next morning was fine. The valets were concerned about us waiting in the cold so we stayed in the lobby until they brought the car and came to get us. Took 5 mins. Tip them. They deserve it. They are your first point of contact with the hotel and their manner is very reassuring. You'll know you made a good choice. I will stay here again when visiting the city over driving thu the city to the Marriot Marquis.
