I love spending time in NYC, but hate staying in the city. This is the third time we have stayed at the Westin in Jersey City for our trip to the city. It is peaceful and beautiful on this side of the Hudson, and access to the city could not be easier. One block away is the PATH train, which you can take directly to the World Trade Center area, or up to 33rd St. From there, a quick walk gets you to Times Square, or a ride on the #1 uptown subway can take you all the way up to Central Park. The light rail is right behind the hotel, which can take you to Liberty State Park - a better option to get to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island ferries (much less congested than Battery Park). This same light rail or the above mentioned PATH train also gets you to Hobeken. This is a beautiful town to walk around in - quaint shops and restaurants, not to mention Carlos Bakery, from the TLC show "Cake Boss". Definitely worth a trip. The views from their waterfront parks exceeded my expectations as far as the NY skyline goes.
The hotel itself is wonderful - clean, peaceful and roomy. Beds are comfy, staff is exceptionally helpful with getting you headed in the right directioni for wherever you want to go and whatever you want to see. There is a nice pool, hot tub and work out area in the hotel. This is the best value for your money when traveling to NYC.
There is also a really nice mall located right behind the hotel, and some great restaurants within walking distance - two particular recommendations would be the cuban restaurant (Azucar) next door and the Italian restaurant (Bertucci's) down the street. Right down the street there is also a COSI restaurant, which is where we had breakfast - great breakfast and lunch sandwiches, coffee, fruit, smoothies, "squagels" (which are their square bagels - delicious) and very reasonably prived.
The ONLY reason I did not give this 5 stars is because of the WiFi service. This day in age I do think it's ridiculous that you have to pay extra for internet - especially when you are paying premium prices for the hotel itself. I found this to be very frustrating and very inconvenient.
