Butterfly Camping Resort

Our whole family (9 of us) rented 2 cabins, 1 cottage and 1 deluxe. Well, the deluxe shocked us as it was so tiny! One very small room held the bunkbeds, doublebed (which the corner was sticking out and injured a couple of us before we had a chance to cover it), a small sink, mini fridge (which was dirty inside) and a small bathroom with shower. This was not a big deal, since the majority of our time was spent at the cottage (right next door) and this was just for sleeping. We would have gotten the Bear Bone cabin, but wanted the a/c.

The Cottage was better, had one room with a pull out futon, small table with 4 chairs, basic kitchen items (gas stove/oven, full size fridge/freezer, sink, many cabinets and drawers.) When we tried to fill the coffee pot, we realized the water seemed to leave extra bubbles in the pot...we tried rinsing it out and filling again, still had "bubbles" ???? We decided not to use tap water for any drinking! We brought plenty of bottled water luckily. There were sliding doors for all the doorways, and they all either stuck or didn't lock. The bunk beds were in the hallway and had a small closet that was I think over a foot back into the wall between the beds and wall. Hard to explain, but let's say this, it was such a tight squeeze, unless you were a toothpick, you weren't fitting back there to put away your stuff. Main bedroom had a double bed with box spring and regular mattress, and a "closet" on each side that had a couple small drawers underneath. There were also cabinets above the bed, but they were high up and really at an awkward position so they're not very usable unless you stood on the bed. Now, closets are great, but we didn't think to bring hangers....so we pretty much lived out of the suitcases. Now we know we're in the woods, but seeing 2 cockroaches in the back bedroom didn't exactly make us happy.

The outside area of the cabin was nice, large porch with 2 chairs, fire pit with 2 more chairs and a long picnic table. The firewood they sold were, I think, $6 a bundle and they were cut so small, they wouldn't have lasted long in the fire. We'd probably have needed 3 bundles to cook for all 9 of us for one meal. We were lucky to find firewood around town a bit, either the side of the road or at a gas station toward the beach.

Also on their website, they said they have free wi-fi (we could barely get a signal if at all anywhere on our campsite) and a dunktank that didn't look like it had been used at all recently. Was it broken? That was a bummer. The pool was nice, clean and mostly empty when we were there Sunday afternoon, but in the middle of us playing, some employees came out and started adding calcium powder to the pool..just sprinkling it in all over at the edges. Well, I don't know if that's safe or not, but even if it is, can't that wait until people are NOT using it? It didn't make us feel all that comfortable about it.

We did not check out the arcade or mini golf. The store was cute (overpriced, but that's expected.) Staff were mostly friendly and helpful.

Again, the whole thing was ok, but just ok. Some things better, some worse. We enjoyed camping near the beach, but probably won't choose this place again.

Me parents became seasonals here about a year ago, me being a teenager along with my older sister and brother weren't really excited, the site are tiny, and it's looks like its made for toddlers, the bathrooms are really clean the pool is amazing, the store is well organized and stocked, the BBQ shack has really good food, me and my family had a great time playing mini golf (even though it was kind of lame and falling apart) we also loved playing volley ball and tether all, the playground is nice, my grandmother stayed in on of the small cabins, it was decently room but there wasn't a bathroom I don't think (can't remember to well) and it got really hot at night, about a week later my cousin her husband and their two young daughters stay in one of the larger cabins, it was wonderful, air conditioned, bathroom was clean, masterbedroom, couches sink cabinets fridge, dining table, nice tv, and a good deck, plus a good sized site, their two daughters ( four and two at the time) had a wonderful time and didn't want to leave, everyone there was nice, the pond is a little mucky but pretty and nice to fish in, the trail is a peaceful walk and great for walking your dog through, my overall favorite part is the pool, it's very refreshing when it's hot out. Can't wait to go back and go swimming.

I always do a ride through to see the campground before staying. I have been camping for 40 years. The bathrooms were clean, the sites are small and rustic, some sites looked like vegetation was overgrown. When I inguired about seasonal sites I found their prices very high compared to other area campgrounds. In fact when you add the winter storage fees they were way more expensive. On a positive note they are open a little later in the year during the nice fall weather. Activities listed seemed similiar to others

Room Tip: If all you want is a place to flop for the nite near Six Flags it would be ok. If you are seeking a...

We loved this campground and the accessibility to Six Flags. Our only complaint was that the pool closed around 6 most evenings, by the time we got back to camp we could not jump in and cool off. The minigolf was delapidated but was free. The sites were huge, clean and well shaded. The bathrooms were also very well tended and showers were clean. It was quiet, comfortable and very relaxing!

I went in may had a blast with my two kids ages 11 and 4. I enjoyed it so much I came back in june and brought another family with kids. The place is clean especially the bathrooms although they should put a soap dispenser in the larger bathroom. The pool is beautiful. The people that work there are the owners I think, they are great with the kids and the activities. They know all the kids names by the end of the weekend. Everyone is so friendly, even the seasonal. I'm definatly going back again and I totally reccomend anyone with kids should go there.

My husband and I have been camping at this resort for 8 years now - and we have NEVER had a bad experience. The owners and staff are all very friendly and helpful with anything you need. There are plenty of things to do right at the campground: a large inground swimming pool, volleyball court, playground, small mini-golf area, basketball court, ping-pong table, and a game room. The country store is always stocked with camping goods, t-shirts, candy, souveniers, etc. The bathrooms and FREE showers are always clean, which is a huge bonus! All of the sites that we have stayed on throughout the years have been clean, shaded, and fairly large in size. The campground is only a 15 minute drive to Six Flags Great Adventure (which is how we found it), and about 35 minutes to both Point Pleasant Beach and Seaside Heights. Last year was the first time we brought our daughter along (and another couple with a son her age), and she had a blast. We just returned from our annual 4 night stay and nothing has changed. This family owned campground is exactly what they say it is: a "Camping Resort". TIP: If you are looking for an ice cold treat, try "Farley's Ice Cream" in Jackson. The BEST home-made ice cream I've ever had!
