Description: "The mood is hip, the food chic. Innovative American fare served in stylish surroundings." - The Star Ledger Hoboken's extraordinary view of the New York Skyline finally has its ideal match! The Northern New Jersey metropolitan area now has a new destination for savvy residents to savor upscale eclectic cuisine, with a strong accent on seafood and highlights such as a raw bar, as well as a modern martini lounge offering fashionable drinks in a chic setting. Owner Jerry Maher says, "My new venture offers fine dining in a fresh, lively and inviting atmosphere coupled with the best view in the world... the unparalleled Manhattan skyline. Our menu features a raw bar that includes a wide variety of the freshest oysters from around the world, as well as superb fish, pristine seafood and succulent steaks in an elegant setting. We believe 3 Forty Grill has raised the bar on the level of dining in Hoboken."

This place has absolutely become a worthless restaurant and place to go regardless of it's great location. The staff, the waiters and I can only assume management have become arrogant, obnoxious and condescending. The service is terrible, the manner in which their guests are spoken to makes me think that the people working there do not realize they are in the service industry.

We were greeted impolitely and informed as to their minimum on an entree per person. The waiter seemed disinterested in serving us and was extremely impolite. The hostess seemed more interested in the blond hair in her mirror than the customers in the establishment. The time to be serviced was inexcusable. This review will be followed up by a letter to the management and a post in the local blogs. If this place manages to remain open it is a poor reflection on our society and what it has become. Oh and yes I expect you to tell us all the Gins you serve.

The 3 Forty Grill is in a great location, a short walk from the Hoboken train station with a great view of Manhattan and a lovely walking park.
The decor is sleek but welcoming. It is spacious, so you are not sitting on top of other diners. The staff as we entered was welcoming and friendly. The waitress who attended to our large table was initially attentive and tried to be accommodating. The menu has some creative and unique offerings but, not so edgy that you have a hard time making a selection. The wine list is acceptable. The calamari appetizer was tasty but the calamari was not warm enough. The calamari was crisp and did not have too much breading. The two sauces were both delicious and flavorful - very fresh tasting. One sauce was an Italian influenced tomato based red sauce, chunky, fresh and flavorful. The other was reflective of a sweet and sour sauce and, did not have as much flavor. We order the bruschetta with brie, olives and grapes. It was fabulous. The flavors went well together and the textures of the crispy bread with the creamy cheese and smooth olives and grapes made for an appealing combination. Again, this appetizer was not warm enough when it came out. The salmon with the leek risotto main course was tasty and well prepared but again it was not served warm enough so the risotto was gummy rather than creamy. The salmon was cooked with a pink in the middle and was clearly fresh. The flavor of the risotto was appealing but, the gumminess detracted from the the overall enjoyment. The two chocolate desserts that we ordered were basic and not as creative as the rest of the menu- a molten chocolate cake and a brownie. Neither was exceptional but both satisfied the chocoholics need for a fix because both desserts had deep, intense chocolate flavor.
Although the waitress was initially attentive, unfortunately the establishment did not give her the tools she needed to excel. For example, when we asked to decant the wine, she explained they did not have a decanter. Also, they were out of an appetizer that we initially ordered.
Further, we must have been there during a change of shift because through the meal, we got a new waitress who was not nearly as attentive. Thus, our water glasses were empty and dirty plates remained on the table too long. We also waited far too long for the check. Further, the waitress never told us that we would be getting a new waitress.
All said, it is worth a try because of the creative nature of the menu, the location, the ambience. I get the sense that perhaps on another night, during a weekend, rather the middle of the week, the A team might be working and the place will be fabulous.

Nice view of NYC and a nice meal. You can stay late night a grab a few drinks at the bar that gathers a nice sized crowd.
