“Awesome Classes!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 5, 2013

Over the weekend I took a Fondant Layer Cake Class in Jersey City. I have always wanted to come visit Carlo's Bakery and was thrilled to learn that they offer decorating and baking classes. All of their classes are held at their factory in Lackawanna. Once we arrived, we received an awesome tour of the factory! The first stop was the consultation room, which is where most of the cake consultations are filmed for Cake Boss. We also toured the baking and packaging room. Then the instructors took us to the classroom where Next Great Baker is filmed. They gave a great demo of the cake we would be making and were so helpful and skilled! We made a beach themed cake and learned a lot of cool and different techniques. Half way through the class, Buddy’s sister Grace came in to say hello! Once our class finished, we of course had to stop by Carlo’s Bakery in Hoboken since we were only 5 minutes away. It was definitely worth the wait! Everything we got was delicious! It was truly an unforgettable experience taking a class with the Carlo’s bakery team.

“Overrated and crowded”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2013

This place is an ordinary bakery that is overrated and overcrowded. There are a dozen bakeries down the street which are great and not this chaotic. It was quite the waste of time.

“Leave your diet at the door/Carlo's Bakery”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 15, 2013

This summer we have been on a Food Network tour with our teen granddaughter. She is not only a foodie fan but loves all things cake baking and design. We ended the tour with a trip to the famous and very personable Cake Boss's hometown, original bakery, Carlo's Bakery on Washington Street in Hoboken, NJ. So worth the visit. The young people working the store are very efficient, and personable. There is plenty of time once you are in the shop to look around as they assign you numbers, just like in any bakery, and so you do not have to stay in line once in the store. The pace is relaxed and not the least bit frenetic so your time in line outside will pay off once inside. Among other goodies, we bought one of the well known, lobster tails p, a puffed delight filled with a pudding like creme, plus a few slices of the popular crumb cake, cupcakes etc...
After taking the requisite photos, we then went down to the most delightful park on the Hudson river that can be found just a few blocks away, behind the store. Lots of trees and benches and even a playground. You look across from your bench and the New York skyline is eye popping beautiful. A great place, on a nice day to sit and enjoy your pastries. Don't miss this extra plus stop in this charming city on the Hudson, it will your visit even more pleasant and relaxing.
HInts: Call ahead to confirm store hours, and try to go on a Sunday if you can. Metered parking is FREE on Sundays, shop opens at 7am and the closer to opening you get there the less of a line. We were there by 7:45 and were number 93! We only waited in line for about forty minutes and were another relaxing 45 to an hour inside. People socialize and are from amazing places, an entire girl teen scouting group from Seattle, a family from Texas, our granddaughter from Florida. Seems as if when visiting the big Apple that Carlo's is a must stop for many. When we emerged from the bakery there was already a line down the block. Going early means better parking, we parked just around the block from the bakery.
If you follow Buddy on Cake Boss, plan a stop here at the original bakery or at any of his other shops.

“Worth the wait”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 12, 2013 via mobile

On the way home from the Statue of Liberty, it is only three miles away, we decided to visit the bakery. We waited in line for two hours and it was worth the wait. Buddy's mom waved hello and stopped in her car to take pictures with us. After two hours we got into the bakery. Buddy's two sisters came out and chatted with us and posed for pictures with us. Cookies are awesome. The cakes were delicious and the lobster tails were divine. What a fun time!
Lots of places to eat and the pizza parlor next door lets you use the restroom while waiting in line. Great fun and tastier than DC cupcakes in Georgetown.

“A wonderful experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 12, 2013

I brought my family to Hoboken NJ to visit Carlos Bakery. It was incredible. The pastries were wonderful but so were the people. They made you feel right at home and were very helpful. We will definitely be back. This bakery is a wonderful example of a great family run business!!!
