Duke Farms started life as a tobacco tycoon's country estate. With the death of his celebrity daughter, Doris Duke, it has become an environmental wonderland that all ages can enjoy. Hiking, biking, exploring nature will keep you busy all day. There is a cafe or you bring your own lunch and have a picnic.

This is fantastic place. We took the free bikes and roamed around. The orchids are fantastic. Got to see lot of old style charming buildings. Very good for a day's outing. Conservation efforts are laudable.

Took an 8-mile walk on a beautiful day. Loved the history and beauty of the place. Loved the orchid house and the farmer's market. Had a delicious lunch in the café. Very impressed with all the environmental education efforts.

This place is fantastic. Tons of paths for running and walking, and enough for a leisurely (free) bike ride. The orchid range is beautiful, but nothing compares to the vast open spaces, stone walls, and lakes. Great place for a nice day.
