Last Sunday very first time visited Duke Farm.so many times pass by but didn't know until went inside on this Sunday September 8th.One of the largest privately-owned parcels of open land in New Jersey.Property is rich in ecological, agricultural, and horticultural resources. You can go early in the morning for Bird watching.Even they have Star Gazing night too.You can explore miles of trails through woods and meadows and along lakes and streams to see how natural and human history have shaped the landscape.Admission is free. Its closed on Wednesday. They also have trolly-Bus so you can go around farm with frequent stop. For nature lovers I must say its worth visiting without paying penny

I grew up near Duke Farms in the 70 s when you could only get to the gorgeous greenhouses and nursery. None of the private buildings were accessible, nor was most of the property itself. We went this past weekend with hopes of using the free bikes, and were not disappointed. After signing a waiver in the gorgeous Orientation Center (previously the stables, I think) we were issues keycards to keep. A few steps away, we picked up three free bikes and helmets, and we were off! There are miles of paved paths all over the property, and there was no limit to how long we could keep the bikes. It's mostly a flat property, so it's very easy riding. Be sure to visit the orchid greenhouse, the hay barn with its statuary, the grand falls, and other buildings that have been converted to new uses. It's a gorgeous property and the free bike program is just great. I thought maybe the "free" bikes were some sort of gimmick, but I was wrong. And if you can't manage bikes, there is a free tram that tKes you all around. What a great place to spend an afternoon!

This huge estate was recently removated and opened to the public. Doris Duke lived here at times and for the most park was closed except for county roads.

Free bikes to borrow for as long as you like. Lovely, peaceful scenic roads to travel on.
Old buildings to look at. Wildflowers, bogs, places to stop and have a picnic. We spent
about 3 hours just wandering about. Nice day! We would go again!

Free bike borrowing, immaculately maintained trails, a lovely welcoming center, a little tram to take you to different locations around the massive property. My boys were in heaven exploring on their own, taking pictures, riding the bikes and generally having a wonderful day. We packed a little lunch, but there is a cafe which closes at 2:30, nice tables with umbrellas, a community garden where you can show kids veggies growing. I can't recommend this place enough.
