“Not good if you want seafood”
Reviewed August 9, 2014

We went for a couple of appetizers to enjoy a beautiful moonlit night. We have been here before and unfortunately things did not get better. Seafood is not good, the steamers were so overlooked that they disintegrated at the touch...Yuck. The shrimp cocktail was ok but cocktail sauce is frozen and thick. The atmosphere is a large deck with picnic tables with a great view of Sandy Hook and Manhattan, it is a shame that the food is so bad. It is self serve and casual but lacks in quality seafood. Maybe it is a good stop for ice cream because the seafood is not worth the stop.

“Nice View”
Reviewed August 6, 2014

Place to go if you want to avoid a tip in an extremely casual outside setting. No frills place for sure. Serve yourself and eat with plastic utensils. No wet naps, just a shared sink to wash up after eating lobsters. No buckets for discarded shells. Overpriced for portions. Soft shell crab platter for take out presented 2 tiny crabs missing most legs and hand full of fries for $22.99. Lobsters dripping wet. Steamers were tasty.

“Nice location, but...”
Reviewed July 23, 2014

Maybe I'm spoiled by the lobster I've eaten over the years in Maine, and more recently in New York - the City Island Lobster House is great.

This restaurant looks like it should be terrific, but it's a missed opportunity.

For one thing, two shedder lobsters for $29 is overpriced. A small order of steamers is ten bucks, only six clams in the order - but, the most disappointing thing was the taste. Either the seafood wasn't fresh, or it didn't come from clean water. It had a spoiled overtone, a slight stench of death like the clams and lobsters had died and begun to spoil - and this was true for both the lobsters and the steamers. It wasn't pronounced enough to make the food inedible, but definitely pronounced enough to make for a fourth-rate, disappointing seafood meal for too much money.

Clam broth usually accompanies steamers, as a small quantity did here (around only a cup), but the taste of the clam broth had the same overtone of spoilage and death.

Lobster crackers have accompanied every lobster meal I've ever eaten previously as part of the serving utensils. They were not provided here, but instead offered conditional on a $1 deposit. This was not only inconvenient and disappointing, but offensive. Your margin is plenty high enough to risk the occasional missing lobster crackers - why inconvenience your customers who are accustomed to better service - and not automatically inclined to steal, as your policy implies?

“Casual atmosphere, seafood, and water”
Reviewed June 1, 2014

We stopped by here on our way home from the shore. You order your food at the window and they call you when it is done. There are a bunch of picnic benches outside on their patio and some areas are covered in case it rains. They do serve beer and I believe have an indoor area but I am not sure. This is a very casual place. I ordered the steamers (piss clams) and they were pretty good. I had asked the girl behind the counter if they were clams or piss clams and she had no idea, which turned me off. Another person that worked there heard me asked and answered for me. A small order is $9.99 and a large order would be about $18.00. My husband ordered the soft shell crab sandwich which comes with fries and he enjoyed it. You can watch boats come by as it is right on the water.
