“Great hiking”

Hartshorne Woods Park
Reviewed November 14, 2013

Used this park to train for a hike through the Grand Canyon. Only place along the shore with actual elevation changes! Add to that hikes through the woods, views of the river and ocean, ospreys, laurels, history (bunkers), and it's a great place to spend a few hours or a day.

This is a lovely Monmouth County park where you can have a woodland adventure on a nice day; I specifically like the Buttermilk Valley entrance. here is the trail map: http://co.monmouth.nj.us/documents/130/hartshorne_map_oct_2012.pdf . There are green, blue and black hiking options depending on your level and preference.

The Rocky Point entrance is interesting in a different way, you can see the old military batteries and go down by the pier at Black Fish Cove. Its very close to the Sandy Hook National Park, hit both the woods and the beach.

My family and I love this park! We have been here numerous times over the years, bringing our kids on strollers, or on bikes. It is excellent for bicycle rides, jogging and parents with strollers, as well as for walking your dogs. We actually met quite a few (now) good friends there. :) We keep going back- wonderful place!
