Neighbors have been raving about this place all summer, so when we finally got there this weekend we had high expectations. It didn't disappoint. The casually elegant decor is welcoming without being pretentious. Our group's appetizers...an heirloom tomato salad, tuna sashimi, and grilled octopus were all scrumptious. The octopus especially interesting accompanied by sliced potatoes and grapefruit which was the perfect foil for the charred octopus.

For the entree we had crab cake, steamed clams, and sautéed scallops. My husband loved his crab cake...thick with lump crab and just enough moisture to hold it together. My scallops were delicious...plump and juicy, done to perfection. Our friend's clams were tender and juicy.

Meals are expensive...at least $50 PP, but the food is excellent and original which makes it well worth the price.

A little uptight about the reservation policy but if you can get in the food is great. Kind of wish they would take it down a few notches regarding the seating and reservations- LBI is over 100 miles from Manhattan but the the competition for a table is just as intense at Black Eyed Susans. If you are up for the challenge of trying to get a seat- book now for 2013...

Went here with my bride for our tenth anniverary dinner. Brought our own Champagne and the server knew enough to bring correct ice bucket, Champagne flutes, and promptly opened the bottle tactfully and poured. Server had honest, knowledgeable answers to our menu questions and was very friendly and helpful. Crab cakes were oustanding and loaded with crab but would have been better without all the creamy sauce (which was otherwise fine). The dining room is open and airy and beachy and very simple. Fresh bread and olive oil was delicious. Salads were fresh and yummy. Cheese plate appetizer outstanding and of very high quality. Only real negative was tap water served in bottles. Would have preferred sparkling or still spring water since the local tap water isn't all that great. Other than that, it was a fine experience and we would definitely go back. Prices are fair given quality of food, quality of service, and overall atmosphere.

This a well appointed, open, beautifully decorated restaurant in a beach mode. Four of us visited and everybody enjoyed his appetizer, main course & dessert. The scallops were perfectly cooked & the tile fish also was cooked to perfection. I recommend the ceviche although it was a very small portion. Our friends had watermelon, cucumber, goat cheese & mint salad that was presented as if it was sushi which was to die for.
Service was attentive although the final bill came very fast as we were eating our dessert.
One thing: beware this restaurant only takes cash. Our friend didn't have it on him so I had to bail him out.
Altogether a delightful experience.

Black Eye Susans is a terrific option for those looking for elegant, quality, food on the north end of LBI. The food is excellent, and not just for the island, in general. The only problem there is the acoustics. It's fairly noisy. But in general, a lovely place to eat out in Harvey Cedars.
