I stayed at this property for three nights in June 2011 while in the area with family to visit NYC. I was sold a room with two queen beds for a mid-week rate of $116 plus tax/fees.
The property is located in an urban area. It is an area mixed with old and new development. Streets immediately adjacent to the property seemed safe, but one did not have to travel far to feel less than safe.
The exterior of the hotel is clean and well maintained. Parking is tight given the small footprint of the property. The exterior images on web sites simply do not accurately reflect how tight this property sits in an urbanized area.
The lobby is spacious, clean and well kept. The check-in desk, a sitting area, breakfast dining area and a hotel bar (unusual for a Hampton) fill a very nice area. A nice touch was a Suite Shoppe selling food products, personal care items and the like. This is not expected at this price point as I typically see areas such as this at Embassy Suites, Homewood Suites and similar properties.
Check-in for our stay was prompt and efficient. The clerk was very helpful in providing information on accessing commuter train service to NYC. To that end, the hotel provides a complimentary shuttle to Newark Penn Station where the PATH train will whisk you to the World Trade Center station in less than thirty minutes for $1.75. What a deal in a region where deals are tough to come by!
Elevator service in the hotel was speedy and the cabs were always clean. Interior hallways were clean, wide and well lit.
The sleepng room was clean with furnishings found to be in good repair. Bath amenities were plentiful and towels were of good quality. As expected at Hampton, internet service was complimentary and exhibited good speed. There were plenty of electrical access points at a work desk. This would be appreciated by business travellers.
The room is was sold faced the street and the approach path for Newark Airport. A train line is a short distance from the property leading to some noise issues. While this is not unexpected in an urban area, I would suggest requesting a room facing the river for noise control purposes.
Check-out was a prompt affair as charges were correct. I was thanked for my business and invited back.
This is a good value property in an area where value is tough to come by. Should the need arise I would not hesitate to stay at this location in the future.
