This little spot along rt. 206 in NJ has a beautiful selection of home made pies. They are truly works of art. We tried the blueberry ricotta and the apple cherry and liked the blueberry one better. The crust was delicious. The fruit pies are almost too fruity for my taste but clearly they are yummy. They have savory pies too but haven't tried them.

We had lunch there and it was, well, just average. We had some chicken orzo soup that was chock full of stuff but lacked taste. The same with the blueberry pancakes. A quiche lacked much crust and was a bit runny for my wife's taste.

They were very nice and gave us a free sample of pie, which was fine, but not worth buying a whole one for $24.

The area is pretty rural so maybe the better ratings are a function of the area? Or maybe we caught them on a bad rainy Monday?

We stop here for breakfast about once a month. There is not a large menu selection and there are only a few tables - it has a very hometown, comfortable atmosphere. The pancakes are excellent - probably the best I have had. They have the pies up front and they are beautiful. Being a baker, these pies just knock my socks off. They are stunning! They also give you pie samples with your meals. Well worth the trip.

Mrs. Penza has created the absolutely nice brunch spot in the Universe! The Red Barn is a true old barn. They still pack blueberries in the back. Evelyn has made the greatest pies in the world also muffins quiches and breakfasts of all kinds.
