If you are reading this and your tastes run to exotic food cooked excellently, close the app and run to this restaurant. The food is wonderful. The problem is the parking is absolutely awful. You have to be very creative and park somewhere else and walk over to Diva's Kitchen. It is just off the corner at "five points" and you will never get in their postage stamp parking lot if you come from Nottingham Way or off of 33 onto Quaker Bridge. We drove around twice before we judged it better off to park in someone else's lot and walk over. But do that and you will be rewarded with a tummy stuffed with African delights. There are 20 platters on the menu...and they are platters!! Lots of food. Like an ethnic grandmother filling your plate and then piling on just a little more and filling up this corner and that.
We ate Dibby with couscous. Then we ate Lamb, athieke and plantains. Dibby is marinated lamb(this had a lovely curry flavor). Athieke is a tomato/garlic sauce. The platters had cooked onions, pickled onions, carrots, green pepper and something magical. Lots of flavors, lots of spice-but not hot. The hot was in the sauce called -can-knee-and it was atomic. Just the best flavored, rip your face off goodness. Please start sparingly and after the core reactor melt down, you can begin to slather it on, until you are a poor addict begging for more. Very special stuff, indeed. Disclosure: two people, two platters for lunch-we did not eat again until the next day. Stuffed, we were.
What else? The owner(who took our order, cooked the food, and delivered it) speaks Wolof, French and english (with a small e), the menu has pictures so you can point. You order at the counter, grab a drink from the ice box and they serve you at a table. The joint was very clean but it is a joint; used to be a takeout Chinese place, the red and white decor will beat you up but there are African masks on the walls to relieve the red and white.
They serve fried chicken, dibby, lamb, beef meat and tilapia and shrimp,. Vegetarian option was vermicelli with mix veggies.Peanut butter soup, okra with rice soup, fufu and okra soup were, also on the menu.
There are a variety of African coffees, natural drinks and bottled water.
Its a slow place.
Its a Muslim place so it not not good form to show up with B.Y.O.B.
Figure about $15 a head.
The place is clean, clean, clean.
They say they will deliver and cater.
We are planning our next meal here already.
