“Fantastic, quaint restaurant with excellent food and service!”
Reviewed November 11, 2011

Loved our meal here last night! Prices are very reasonable, food delicious, and the service was fantastic. We had the sampler platter for an appetizer, and this was a great way to start the meal. Next was the cabbage soup...very good. Dinners were the pork loin and eggplant. We both enjoyed our meals and thought the vegetable mix that accompanied the entrees was GREAT. We will definitely return!

“An Ok Dinner”
Reviewed March 29, 2011

I wish I could say how wonderful our dinner at the Mediterranean Cafe was, because I really did want to like the cute little place, but the food was pretty much average and definitely missed on some basic Mediterranean staple dishes.

Since we were in a Mediterranean restaurant (although the decor gave no particular hint of it and the name of the restaurant was not even on the menu) of course we wanted to try the hummus and the falafel. We asked if we could have the falafel grilled, but the hostess/chef said they were frozen and then put into the deep fryer, so that was not possible.

The star of the dinner was the yogurt dill sauce which we enjoyed with both the falafel and the very tasty grilled vegetables that came with our entrees. Our chicken breast was cooked nicely, and the salad accompanying the entrees was extremely fresh and tasty, with greens and beans and a balsamic dressing.

However, the basmati rice accompanying the entree was totally boring and unspiced except for a dusting of turmeric on top. And the falafel was probably the worst falafel we have ever had. The balls definitely had been deep-fried; there was little left in the center, and what was the had not been ground and was as a result coarse and falling apart--and not particularly tasty, either. Three balls of falafel for $7.95--definitely overpriced.

As for the hummus, it needed more time in the food processor. Sorry, we don't like our hummus grainy.

The hostess/chef was pleasant and friendly. Would we go back? Maybe. The cafe has a tiny menu, although there were some specials for the day.

Also, this is a five table restaurant, seating like 17 total in what was once probably the living room of a house. We went early and had the place to ourselves. If all the tables were to fill, the noise level would be pretty high, as all the tables are very close together due to the small space.
