“Doubletree Fort Lee for NYC”
Reviewed November 4, 2008

This Hotel is now taken over by Doubletree.

Great place to stay, hotel is excellent for what you'd expect. We stayed there on a trip to NYC and thought it would be relatively close to the city.

Large suit, double bed, marble bathroom with shower, tv and dressing table, smoking and non-smoking rooms available. Restuarant and bar downstairs but is a bit pricey. Swimming pool and gym too but didnt use these.

TIP: Fort Lee is a little out of the way for NYC, the hotel staff will call a taxi to get you over the Washington bridge but it will cost between $15 - $40. Instead of getting taxi it's best to walk down the freeway (to the left) for 10-15 mins just past the Holiday Inn where there's a local bus stop. Buses run every 15 mins and only costs $2 per person and takes you right to the Washington Avenue Subway station. If trying to get home after midnight it's best to use the (A) line back to Washington Avenue and try to flag a taxi down on Broadway, will probably cost about $30 - $35 to get back over the bridge.

If you manage to get the bus back from Washington Avenue, get off at Jones Street (on the freeway), walk up the road and over the bridge to the left, and there's a bus stop on the opposite side, jump back on the bus for less than a minute and get off at the Exon (spelling?) gas station next to the Holiday Inn and walk the 10 mins back to Doubletree Hotel.

  • Liked — Cheaper than most places on Manhatten Island

We couldn't have asked for a cleaner nicer hotel. Very upscale, great accommodations and reasonable. Check-in was a breeze, concierge gave us 'knock your socks off' personal service (thank you Luis!), shuttle was so convenient. If you're planning on going to NYC, this is a great place to stay. We went to a Yankees game and had no trouble getting around on city transit. I will return to this hotel! Thank you Hilton/Doubetree!

  • Liked — Clean, Updated Upscale Rooms, Concierge.
  • Disliked — Couldn't walk to NYC even though less than 3 miles away.

My daughter and I stayed at this hotel for two nights on a weekend in August. We were planning on traveling to Manhattan and liked the idea of their shuttle service. Unfortunatley, the shuttle is not as easy to use as it might seem. The shuttles were always sold out. The shuttle is actually the hotel courtesy van which does not hold very many people. We liked the hotel itself, the front desk staff was ok, the bell staff was very helpful but it is not very convenient (or cheap) if you are spending time in NYC. If you take the courtesy shuttle to the bridge shuttle and use the subway it is ok to go into the city but at night, two women alone, we did not feel comfortable getting off the shuttle on the GW bridge and having to find a taxi to take us back to the hotel. We ended up taking a taxi from Manhattan which cost $80.

I walked through the door and immediately had a bad feeling in my gut. There is a creepy feel throughout the entire place. This hotel is the worst. The rooms are outdated. The furniture is circa 1972 at the latest. None... NONE of the outlets worked, except the ones that the lamps were plugged into. But what good is it working in the dark? Everything is unclean. EVERYTHING! The room door does not close properly. The halls are dimly lit. The location is off the highway and unsafe. Do not eat anything from there as their sanitation standards are questionable. If you are a female traveling alone, this is one of those locales where if you still check in after reading this review, "you are asking for it". There is a "courtesy" motel, literally called the courtesy MOTEL next door. If you want to get into the city, there are no taxis to hail; you will have to arrange a very expensive sedan service.

The one good thing about the hotel is the customer service. I was very kindly greeted when I check in and kindly dismissed when I ran for my life the very next day (with a driver waiting).... I checked out early. By the way, there is a fee for an early check out (big surprise). But if you value your health and your life at all, the high expense of leaving prematurely won't even faze you.

After sleeping in my room for few nights I started to notice bug bites all over my body. Then I found a dead bed bug in my pyjama's. I told the manager but never heard from him.
Also, you may save money in sleeping but you will make up for it in travel into New York as well as meals. There is absolutely NOTHING around the hotel and your only choice for breakfast is a $16 buffet or really high priced room service. There are no coffee shops. Although the shuttle is a great deal compared to a taxi, you are dependent on them.
I would not stay here again. And I still have my bug bites

For that price we payed we can not get a better hotel. The rates are great, the sushi is perfect and we stayed one night in manhattan for the double price in a worst room. We love the Hilton/Doubletree Fort Lee. Tony from Germany
