We visited 55 Main again last week and what a difference. Our "rude" server from the last visit was nowehere to be seen. It was a quiet night and the charming hostess was actually our waitress while Chef was intermittenly in the dining room helping to clear or lay tables. What really impressed me was that one of our party was wavering on ordering an eggplant appetizer and Chef overheard the discussion. He immediately came over and advised not to order that dish. When questioned he replied that the only eggplant he had would be fine in a parmesan lunch sandwich but not "perfect" for the appetizer dish and he would rather not serve it that way. To me that spoke volumes about the Chef's honesty and attention to detail. All the food was delicious and the serving sizes generous. The crisp calamari & oyster appetizer was stellar again as was the pumpkin ravioli special and the herb crusted rack of lamb.
This time 55 Main gets a well-deserved 5 star rating. Let's hope that the high standard of the food is not again let down by the service (this seems a common complaint) on future vists.
