“Beautiful and relaxing getaway”
Reviewed August 2, 2010

I had heard great things about the Tuscany House and I can tell you, I was not disappointed. This is a beautifully appointed hotel in the Renault Winery Resort. While the winery is over 140 years old, the hotel is less than ten, and fully modern. The trick is that they make it fit in so well with the old winery just across the driveway.

The decor is an ode to traditional architecture of the Tuscany region of Italy; gorgeous murals, fountains, and luxurious hardwoods. You will wonder how you stepped so quickly from the Pine Barrens of New Jersey into the lush Tuscan atmosphere. The rooms are spacious and well appointed. We were given a room with a balcony and king size bed! They seem to pay attention to details so closely here.

The hotel has two nicely landscaped pools. Neither is particularly large, but keep in mind the hotel only has 50 or so rooms, so there is plenty of room for all. Joseph's Restaurant, within the hotel, is picturesque, and more impressive is the food! A nice menu. and every dish has been well thought out and executed. Dining here is a treat! The only bigger treat is the Gourmet Restaurant across the driveway at the Winery. This place is top notch. Here, a limited menu signals that they offer only the very best. A six-course meal where you choose the entrees and they prepare 5 gourmet courses to compliment it. This dining sensation has earned quite a reputation - don't miss it.

I advise looking into the various package deals The Tuscany House offers. I found a wonderful package that actually INCLUDES dinner at either restaurant, plus complimentary lunch, wine tour and wine! A two-night stay gets you into both restaurants!

For golf enthusiasts, they have a highly-rated golf course right on the resort, so your days can be full. Plus with additional wineries in the area and Historic Smithville just 15 minutes away, and Atlantic City less than 30, you have plenty to do over the course of a 3 or 4 day stay.

Tuscany House is a hidden treasure - one worth searching for!

My fiance and I recently stayed at the Renault Winery's Tuscany House hotel in the hopes of a romantic getaway & tour of the facility for our upcoming wedding. When we arrived at the hotel, I was taken off guard that the employees at the front desk were so unfriendly but tried not to let it ruin our evening. We had a wonderful tour of the winery, wine tasting & dinner in the "Gourmet Restaurant" across the street. I thought 3 of the 6 courses we had were fabulous. (When eating at this restaurant, you are agreeing to order a 6 course meal. There are no a la carte options, or just ordering an entree...its all 6 or nothing) We then retired to our room for some much needed rest. I was suprised at 8:30 am when the phone rang. I had not ordered a wake-up call, as we were planning on sleeping in. The woman on the phone said "this is the front desk, we want to know if you are leaving any time soon?" I informed her that we planned to check out at 11am, and receive our tour of the ballroom. I was even more suprised when the phone rang again at 10:45am and it was the same woman asking "when are you planning on checking out?" Now at this point, we realized that it had begun to snow...so it seemed as though these phone calls were in hopes of getting us out so the staff could go home! When we arrived at the front desk at 11am, I said that we were ready for our tour. The employee rudely said to me "oh, there will be no tour...its snowing!" I asked to see a manager, and after 15 minutes of waiting realized that I would NEVER host my wedding at a place that treated me so rudely in just one stay, so I left without any visit from a manager. I will never stay at this hotel again, and I plan to tell all my friends & family members never to go there either!

Booked a package which included dinner for two, plus breakfast and a winery tour. It was a terrific value. The hotel was designed to look like an Italian villa, and the room was very comfortable and very spacious.

The restaurant has terrific food, with very pleasant wait staff. And the manager, Mike, is very gracious and professional.

The winery tour was not very extensive, but the guide was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic, and the winery has an interesting history. And the included tasting was very generous ! Fortunately, it's a short walk back to the hotel (right across the street).

I would certainly recommend Tuscany House for a romantic getaway.

Come here for the food and the wine, but definitely try to stay in the hotel if you can. The whole complex is run by Joe Milza and his extended family, and you feel like a friend when you stay with them. We have stayed numerous times for various events, from New Years Eve parties to the Dining with the Chefs series, and have always had a wonderful time. The hotel has a bed-and-breakfast feel, with a different style in each room. The staff is great, very accommodating and efficient. Take the tour of the winery, buy some wine, and meet the boss....all in all a great way to spend a weekend.

My husband and I are very seasoned travelers and have rarely, if ever, had such a bad experience at any hotel, let alone one with "upscale" pretensions. 1. Cleanliness issues: Major gross-outs included a) observing a busboy drop several pieces of cutlery on the floor of the restaurant, then pick them up and use them to set a table!! (we notified the restaurant manager, who was quite upset), b) a white crusty stain on the underside of our bedspread. We don't even want to think about what that was! There were also a number of large old stains on the second floor hallway carpet. Indeed the entire place looked as if it had not been vacuumed in several days. 2. Service: On two occasions the staff responded to our concerns about lack of cleanliness with excuses (e.g., "we're short-staffed" "there was a lady sitting there so I couldn't clean the ashtray" and no apologies. The restaurant waitress was quite nice, however. 3. Noise: The walls are indeed thin (as another reviewer noted) and loud voices carried through the walls and halls. Two large groups of guests were shouting a golf-related conversation across the small pool, ignoring others who did not want to hear. People shouted out in the parking lot. We note that other reviewers said the place is quiet, but perhaps that was in the off season. Summer at this place is LOUD 4. Ambience: Hate to say it, but the effort at opulence comes off as downright tacky. Faux marble, faux hand-carved wood, worn carpets, plastic plants, cherubic reproduction fountains and sculptures. Pool area is small and overlooks a parking lot on one side. In fact, the hotel is surrounded on 3 sides by parking lots. Check it out on Google Maps terrain view!! View from our room balcony was of a parking lot! 5. Food and wine: food = mediocre, especially at those prices. Wine = quite poor, especially at those prices! There's a reason it's not marketed outside of the vineyard. All in all, a real downer of a weekend at the Renault.

We stayed for three days in the Tuscany House, while we enjoyed the GREAT golf course. Talk about QUIET. We were the ONLY ones who used the pool. The ONLY ones at breakfast ( PS we were there before the cook at 7:30) But once again the golf was GREAT and we took a long walk throughout the countryside.Once again , talk about quiet. We never saw a moving car. This is a great getaway Hotel and only a thirty minute drive to AC. Were going once again for the 4th of July weekend this year.

This is their quote online: To provide a memorable experience to our customers by exceeding their expectations.

The hotel is beautifully decorated and the amenities as good as any 4 start hotel. Note that the only good views are in the front of the hotel. The walls are paper thin as the prior post mentioned. Not just muffled sounds but we heard clearly the names and actions of our next door neighbors "in the biblical sense" at about 8am Saturday morning.

We went with 2 other couples and had a fun night planned out! We had dinner plans at the Gourmet Restaurant - which was fabulous as it has always been the 7 or so times prior that we have eaten there. Truly a treat! We finished up around 9:30pm to head back to the hotel and hang out in Joseph's bar. We were told there was a piano player and that they stay open as long as people are there. The website stated open until mid-night. Yeah not! They were all closed up! So here we are in the middle of no-where with nothing to do onsight. 3 other couples there had sad they were closing the bar and asked them to go outside!

The worst part was we were told we could hang out in the upper living quarters. Um no- not with paper thin walls and people in their rooms trying to get some sleep prior to a wedding going to be held the next day. We have better sense then that. So we were told we could sit outside on the back patio. Um no! So we can all get cold? Come on! There was nothing exceeded with this evening except the good company of friends. So we went back into the lounge area. We were told we could not stay there and that we had to leave. We asked what is our group of 6 people supposed to do at 11pm and we were again told- to go outside! We complained again but fell on deaf ears. There were also 3 other couples trying to find a place to gather and chat as well! Outside there was about another 4 couples shivering and smoking. Right there was enough people for them to have or keep the bar open- absolutley ridiculous! It was in the mid 50's nto summer weather for outdoors.

So if you want to eat any meal - great place! If you want to have no night life and to just call it an early night in your room - great place! However the walls are paper thin so hope you don't have noisy hall mates.

  • Liked — The food at the gourmet restaurant
  • Disliked — There was nothing to do after dinner.
