A coworker and I went there for dinner based on a hotel staff recommendation. Sure glad there were two of us to share that HUGE pastrami sandwich. It was great even though it was a bit pricey.

Late night Friday, staying at the Hilton in Raritan Center. Where to eat? Harold's, someone suggested. "They have huge sandwiches." Huge? Try GINORMOUS. Enough in once sandwich to feed a small country. Really. The cakes area foot tall and two feet across. Plan on bringing home leftovers, but definitely go for great corned beef, brisket, pastrami, etc.

Harold's is the home of the huge sandwich. Bring a friend and you will still take home enough food for a couple meals. The pastrami and corned beef are great and everything on the menu is made for sharing. You will see the desserts on the way in. They are huge too but tasty. When you are taking home tomorrows dinner you may as well have dessert to go with it. The decor is simple. The service is very friendly and efficient. It is a fun experience. Remember if the bill seems high that you are probably leaving with enough food for at least one and probably two meals.

I have been to Harold's many times and its always a feeding frenzy when we get there. You have to save room and have a good appetite when you get there as everything is Huge. I always go for the hot pastrami sandwiches. They have many choices of sandwiches from large to gigantic. They go through 16,000 lbs of pastrami & corn beef a week at Harold's, and who knows how much rye bread. The sandwiches (huge piles of meat) normally come with two pieces of bread, but they have a bread and pickle bar that you help yourself too, and can make many sandwiches. The rye bread, health salad and pickles are super fresh and very tasty. Leftovers here is the norm, and they have plenty of foil and containers to bring your extra extra extra food home. They make some of the biggest cakes I have seen and one slice will feed 4-8 people. The cakes are the first thing you see on your left as you walk in. They look like they were baked in 6 gallon buckets they are so big, and they taste great too. I have seen pancakes the size of garbage can lids to giant sandwiches to other dishes and they all look impressive. When they set your food down in front of you, the two things I have heard most is Wow or OMG ! Eating at Harold's is an experience.

We visit Harold's two or three times a year, usually with out of town business clients looking for a NYC "corned beef experience". The first thing you see when you walk in are the gigantic cakes and desserts. The items on the menu are designed to be shared. The corned beef and pastrami are excellent. Be sure to visit the pickle bar, with a good variety of Kosher pickles and salads, grab a few extra slices of bread so that you can pack up whatever you don't finish and have a couple of sandwiches later. When we bring people in from out of town they always take pictures of the size of the sandwiches and other items on the menu. A little pricey, but worth it. Enjoy.
