I heard some great reviews about this hotel, so I chose this hotel for one night stay during our family reunion. The front desk staffs were nice and helpful. There were couple problems with hotel.
1. Free breakfast. I do enjoy free breakfast at the hotel though the food is usually mediocre at the best. This hotel breakfast buffet is so-so and the main problem was the crowd. It was almost like the Best Buy crowd at the black Friday sale. Everyone was trying get food and going after the small number of tables. I felt so cheapen by the whole experience. I will just pay money and go eat at Panera next door next time.
2. It advertise it self as having nice view of Manhattan but the definition of "view" is one of those beach resort definitions. It was NOT water front view but water (Hudson river and Manhattan) view if you are at the right spot.
3. Cable TV was fuzzy. It was nice to have pretty big TV but it was fuzzy. It was pretty bad.
4. My wife left a coat in the room when we checked out. We called the hotel and asked them about it. The person who answered phone said he would look into and give us a call.
We never heard from the hotel.

Overall, the hotel is clean, spacious, and in a good location but it is not worth the price and "water view."

We were very happy with our stay at the Homewood Suites in Edgewater. Receptionist was helpful when we checked in and we had a very comfortable suite. Everything was there that we needed to make our stay enjoyable. The location is convenient to taking the ferry across to Manhattan and there is also bus service close-by. You have the advantage of having a wonderful view of the Hudson River and Manhattan, particularly at night. The hotel is part of a new complex with a good selection of stores. Go a little bit further afield and you will find many good local restaurants and more shopping! Our only criticism would be insufficient staffing at the breakfast buffet on one particular morning which resulted in a scarcity of plates, spoons, OJ etc but the next morning everything was running smoothly. Will definitely stay here again.

Hotel is overlooking the Manhattan skyline and is conveniently located above a parade of shops and 10 mins from Target/TJMax etc...
Staff is very friendly, rooms are spacious, shower is massive and the bed is very big and comfy. There is a wide variety of food available for breakfast and food that you can buy from the vending machines/staff at all times.

My family spent 3 nights at Homewood Suites Edgewater at Christmastime. I can confidently recommend the facility as clean and convenient, with friendly staff. The four of us were reasonably comfortable in a one-bedroom suite that included a full-size sofa bed. Soon a full won't be big enough for my two kids, but we'll cross that bridge etc.

Speaking of crossing the bridge, the hotel is very convenient for day trips into Manhattan. A NJ Transit bus to Port Authority stops a couple of blocks from the hotel. If the traffic is not rush-hour-bad, you can be downtown in fewer than 30 minutes. The same bus stops near the ferry port, in case you prefer a slow and scenic trip to Gotham.

Back to the suites. Furniture, appliances, amenities, and free internet service were all adequate to good. Breakfast was typical: waffle iron, bacon and/or sausage, scrambled eggs, hash browns or home fries, plus lots pastries, cereals, and fruit. The one time I went down for coffee late at night, I found empty urns or urns with lukewarm contents.

The hotel is part of a retail/apartment development called City Place. Most of the stores are not especially useful to the typical traveler (no grocery, pharmacy, or convenience stores), though I can see how having a Verizon store nearby can be comforting to business travelers. There's a Panera in the complex, a Haagen-Dazs (or was it Ben & Jerry's?), plus at least three sitdown restaurants, two overlookign the Hudson River and Manhattan. One night, we ordered pizza for delivery by one of the establishments who advertise in the hotel services guide.

There is free covered parking under City Place. If you arrive during peak shopping times, you may not find a place under cover. The alternatives are an unpaved area south of City Place (closer to the hotel entrance) or a large parking lot immediately north of the development, in the middle of which sits a multiplex movie theater. Further north, probably too far to walk in cold weather, is a major shopping center with a Target, Barnes & Noble, and other big boxes.

I can't speak to value, because I booked the room with Hilton Honors points. But given the fine location, view of Manhattan, and size of the accommodation, I would have had no problem paying upwards of $150. So if you get a weekend special for under $150, I say you can't do much better. If you like other Homewood Suites, you'll find that the Edgewater branch lives up to your expectations.

We stayed here for 10 days in June 2007. There were 4 of us, my husband, me and our two daughters, aged 17 and 20. We chose this hotel because it was close to New York City, but less expensive. We knew right from the time we checked in that we would have a great experience. The desk clerk, Paul, was so friendly and accomodating. He saw that we were from St Louis and asked us if we were going to the Cardinal/Mets game. In fact, that was the reason we took our vacation at that time. He told us he had season tickets to the Mets and assured us that we were safe to wear our Cardinal apparel to the game...and he was right. He gave us great info on how to get to Shea Stadium. Not only that, but he actually gave us his tickets to a game that he was unable to attend, so my daughters were able to see two games!

The hotel offers free shuttle service to the ferry that takes you across the Hudson River into Manhattan. We did this a couple of times. You should definitely do it at least once for the view...it is breathtaking! It is quicker, too, but more expensive than taking the bus, which you can catch right down the street from the hotel. The bus actually drops you off right in front of the hotel on the return trip. The only cabs we took were to and from the airport.

We had a one bedroom suite with two queen beds. There was plenty of room for us. Also, the hotel offers a free grocery shopping service. We left them a list and when we returned from a long day in Manhattan, groceries had been delivered and put away for us!

There is a free buffet breakfast which was good and Monday - Thursday they offer free dinner. We only took advantage of the dinner once, but the hostess was super accomodating as we were leaving before dinner actually started and she allowed us to go ahead and eat early. There was free wine and beer during dinner, also.

We would definitely recommend staying at Homewood Suites. It was a great experience and the staff couldn't have been nicer!

Stayed in a two room hotel suite: bedroom and living room. The bedroom consisted of a sleeping area (large bed, large tv, two bedside tables) and a bathroom area (bathroom with toilet, wardrobe, and sink area). The living room consisted of a kitchen area (fridge, sink, dining table, large microwave, coffee maker etc.) and a living area ( sofas, desk, large tv) - so as you can see very nice spacious suite.

Very comfortable, very clean, very spacious suites. Felt like a home from home - no need to go out!

The staff were very friendly. There was complimentary breakfast served - nothing special but ok.

In terms of location, within walking distance of the ferry which takes you over to Manhatten, New York. Directly outside the hotel there are a number of shops - banana republic, gap etc. or if you take about a 10 - 15 minute walk there are a couple of shopping areas with Old Navy, Payless Shoes, McDonalds and some other shops.

It's a good hotel to make the most of the hustle and bustle of New York but from a distance - so if you prefer to stay away from the madness of NY, NY, I owould recommend this hotel and simply make use of the ferry which takes you directly into NY, NY.

The hotel was very accomodating - but the very best thing was the customer service we received from Edy!

She went above and beyond her call of duty to help us. We give her five stars for excellent service!

The hotel is at a very convenient location to NYC. Some nice restaurants on the water with a skyline view of NYC. The ferry over to NYC is convenient.

This was our first time staying in New Jersey - we'd do it again.
