We just spent two nights at this hotel. We have never stayed at a Holiday Inn Express before. The experience was ok. Nothing great. Some of the reviews on this site make this sound much better than it is...all I can think is that these people don't have very high standards. The room was ok (strange odor), beds were adequate, you would hear people walking above you all night long. For the price, I think it should have been better.

We travel to this area often, have stayed at a number of other hotels, and over a weekend like this we normally can get a room for slightly over $100 at The Heldrich in New Brunswick, which is much better (they didn't have any rooms).

To sum this location up, it is just a road side motel and if you are passing through and looking for a place to stay for one night it isn't too bad.

As you can see from TripAdvisor's reviews of our hotel, we are in the No. 1 position for this area. I am sorry that we could not meet your expectations for your stay, however, as you mentioned, this was your first Holiday Inn Express (brand-wide) stay. Based on your other reviews on this site, you have stayed at RitzCarltons, W Hotels, and other Full Service properties. We are not in the same competitive landscape as those brands. Our hotel is consistently voted in the Top 10 percent of Holiday Inn's worldwide.. and has very high guest service scores.

As you mentioned, the Heldrich is another hotel to stay at in the New Brunswick area. We whole-heartedly recommend the Heldrich, along with the Hilton East Brunswick and the Hyatt New Brunswick. As these hotels have service standards that are comparable to ours (but have the full-service feel that you needed).

We would love to welcome you again for your future stays, and please contact us prior to arrival if you require any additional/special services from our hotel.

We stayed here for a family bar mitzvah. The hotel is quite clean. We were a little concerned about its proximity to the NJ turnpike but we never heard any traffic sound. In fact, the hotel was quite quiet!

Breakfast was a typical hotel fare - scrambled eggs, bacon, biscuits, pastry, yogurt, etc. It was adequate to start the day.

The pool is small but fairly well maintained and a good place to unwind at the end of a tiring day.

All in all, it was good to very good and we would stay there again.

Traveling with 2 very tired and cranky young kiddos, got in late at the hotel and looking forward to watch a cartoon to ease them into bed. Unfortunately the TV remote didn't work. Called the front desk and they said to pick up a new one at the front desk (other hotels would have delivered one to your door). In the morning, the remote didn't work again nor the manual controls in the TV. Trying to get ready and packed quickly while managing 2 young kids without a TV was crazy. Didn't want to leave the kids in the room to pick up yet another new remote control (if that was indeed the problem as the TV manual controls/plugs didn't work either). Upon checkout, mentioned to the attendant how critical it was to have a working TV in the rooms. He didn't even apologize nor offer to give us any kind or compensation for our troubles. He simply have an 'oh well' attitude. Obviously didn't have to manage active kids himself. This is the last time I stay at this chain. Thoroughly disappointed by the service and unreliability of the room equipment.

We apologize for the TV Remote situation you faced. As mentioned, we would have been able to provide you with a new remote, if someone from your party would have come down to the desk. The hotel operates with one guest service representation from 8p to 7a... (since we are not a full-service hotel), and thus... they cannot leave the desk unmanned to deliver the remote to your room.

We have shared your review with the hotel desk staff and shall make appropriate adjustments internally.

Thank you, and we hope you give us another try..

So far as I'm concerned, this is the place to stay if you're visiting New Brunswick or its environs. It's clean, quiet, comfortable, well-maintained, safe, and hospitable. I stayed here on several occasions last year when my family was having a situation. I'd come back at the end of each day ready to drop. As soon as I got into the hotel, I could collapse - I didn't have to fight a new set of problems. IMO, this place is a hidden gem
The hotel can be hard to find at first. If you're coming from Newark, get off the turnpike at Exit 9 (New Brunswick), veer to the right just past the toll booths and get on Hwy 18 North (towards New Brunswick). Aim for the giant tower you see on your right as you exit the turnpike. This is the East Brunswick, or Tower Center, Hilton Hotel. You're not going there, but it's the most obvious landmark. As you get on Hwy 18N, stay to the right. Lickety split, you'll be at a traffic light for Tower Center. Turn right into Tower Center. The Hilton monolith is now directly in front of you. Ignore the Hilton (with prejudice) and make an immediate right (at a second traffic light) onto a little access road. Now there will be a grove of trees on your left, and the road you just came from, Highway 18, will be on your right. No hotel will be visible, only trees, grass, and Highway 18. Pay no attention to your rising panic that you have turned the wrong way and keep going. The Holiday Inn Express is at the end of the little access road.
I've stayed at the downtown Hyatt Regency, the Tower Center Hilton, the North Brunswick Ramada Inn, and several other places in the area. This place is much better than any of the others. (My second choice is the North Brunswick Ramada Inn on Route 1 South. The breakfast is slightly better at the Ramada, and the rates are somewhat cheaper, but everything else is better at the Holiday Inn Express.)
I cannot recommend the restaurant a short walk up the hill at the Tower Center Hilton. It's been a couple of years since I ate there, but it was memorable and not in a good way.
If you are at the Holiday Inn Express, and you order a pizza delivered, be sure to emphasize that you need it delivered to the Holiday Inn Express at Tower Center, not the Hilton. Apparently, the vast majority of pizza deliveries to Tower Center go to the Hilton (other folks avoiding the Hilton restaurant perhaps), and the fact that both the Hilton and the Holiday Inn Express start with an "H" causes confusion.
When your stay at the hotel is over, it's unbelievably easy to get back on the New Jersey Turnpike. Go back to your friendly traffic light at the entrance of Tower Center. Turn left onto Highway 18 South, bearing as far as you can to the right. The entrance to the turnpike is a matter of a few yards along Highway 18.
The Hampton Inn in North Brunswick is the newest hotel in or around New Brunswick currently, so it may be worth a try, but I haven't stayed there. Its rates are higher than the Holiday Inn Express.

My husband and I enjoy staying at Holiday Inns and try to stay at one when we can. On our recent trip to East Brunswick, NJ we booked a couple nights at this Holiday Inn Express and were beyond impressed! The first thing you see when walking into the lobby is an amazing chandelier (smthg. you would see in a 5 star hotel). The lobby had a modern-chic decor and was ultra clean. The staff were friendly and very accomodating. The complimentary breakfast was delicious and fulfilling. Our king room was very spacious and clean, I tend to be a hotel snob and I had no complaints at all. If you're looking for a clean, beautiful and spacious place to stay in the North Jersey area, look no further, stay at this hotel!
