“Best, freshest seafood available locally”
Reviewed July 9, 2012

Denville Seafood is a great, family-owned seafood market and restaurant with a long history. They buy the fish fresh from the Fulton Fish Market in NYC each day, and it is cooked perfectly. The vegetables and sides are always excellent also. The new, expanded Codmother's Cafe is beautiful since they remodeled after the August 2011 hurricane (check out the photos of the flood while you're there - unbelieveable). We enjoy dining out front under the awning in nice weather. Best local place for FRESH seafood!

“Terrible RUDE manager and employees plus pricey and long line for pickup”
Reviewed December 25, 2010

RUDE employees and even "Joe the manager/cook" is worse, PLUS LONG wait time and super expensive in the pickup section. I Placed an order for pickup around 3pm on xmas, we asked if we could get it earlier, they agreed and said "come in about 1/2 hr". When we got there the line was out the door and the small order wasnt ready. 1 dark haired lady behind the counter was screaming " your order was for 3pm pickup, not now!" I replied "I was told I can come now", she replied mumbling under her breath and got the cook/manager "Joe" (who was dropping food on the floor cursing to himself) replied to me "your not suppost to be here til 3pm, we are real busy and we close at 5pm and i dont home til 730, youll have to deal with waiting just like everyone else"!! I waited for another 1/2hr for 2 small shrimp trays that totaled almost $200.00! Never again nor will my family or close friends ever go there again.

“plain”
Reviewed September 10, 2010

The food is simple... mostly fried, broiled, or grilled. The menu is unimaginative. The last time I was there, I ordered the Ipswich steamers. Rather than serving them traditionally with a bowl of broth for dunking and getting off the excess sand and warm butter for dipping... these were served in a buttery, brothy sauce. The sauce would have been much more appropriate on little necks, as they tend to be less sandy.
The service is always good. If you live local and are looking for a fish fix, the food is fine. But I prefer to go someplace "legal" for oysters.

“Freshest, Best Seafood around”
Reviewed February 9, 2010

If you're a seafood lover, Denville Seafood is your place. The owner travesl every day to the Fulton Fish Market in New York City, and bring back the freshest of the day's catches. In their restaurant, called the "Codmother Cafe", the fish is offered up in several different styles - grilled, blackened, etc., and with the kinds of accompaniments you'd expect. There are also some daily specials...fresh fish or shellfish served in special sauces with special accompaniments.

If you want to see what you're eating, just go into the next room and there's the market, with everything beautifully laid out and fresh as fresh can be.

We travel every week from new York City to the Poconos, and we detour here for our lunch along the way. If you're into seafood, there's no reason to go anywhere else! Just the best.

Did I mention that the servers are pleasant, the decor and atmosphere is simple, appropriate, clean and bright.

Altogether, delicious fresh foods, excellent preparation, pleasant setting, good service.
