Description: Measure a roof’s worth by the quality of its thatch;A friendship by the strength of its hands;A love by the size of its heart; And a family by the depth of its loyalty.Thatch can be defined as any vegetation used to roof a structure. The vegetation is gathered, bundled and secured to the framework on top of a building. Thatch functions both as a shingle and underlayment; very rarely is there anything beyond simple framework between the thatch and the inside of the structure.European thatch dates back to before the Middle Ages, when the first small, permanent villages were established. Today, thatch is generally acknowledged for its visual appeal and as a way to add a historic or whimsical touch to a home. While it does impart a storybook quality to many structures, thatch also retains practical aspects of its past.Designed with a traditional thatched roof reminiscent of old Irish homes, Thatcher McGhee’s first opened its doors in Pompton Lakes, NJ in 2006 and raised a new roof in Denville, NJ in 2011. An eclectic blend of new and old, Thatcher’s is a place for friends to catch up, families to share a meal and celebrations to be had. Whether you’re enjoying a Taste of Ireland in the comfort of our traditional thatched roof Irish cottage, or some American fare in the bar or dining room, we take pride in the privilege to be part of your lives. If this is your first visit or you’re a regular part of our shenanigans, we invite you to create new memories with us while having a comforting meal or a refreshing pint! Our newest location, located at 53 Broadway in Denville Thatcher McGhee’s is Northern New Jersey’s newest Irish Pub & Eatery. The authentic look and old country feel of the establishment will make you feel as if you've just landed on the streets of Ireland. If you've ever been to our Pompton Lakes location, you know we have it all when it comes to watching the big game. Denville is no different, with enough TV’s to cater to the biggest of sports fans. Whether it’s NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL or any other sports that get your heart racing… we've got you covered with our beautiful flat screen televisions and state of the art sound system. “Good Irish Fare”
Reviewed May 16, 2013

We've been to Ireland often enough to be snobbish when it comes to restaurants claiming to serve Irish food in the states. Thacher's claim is GENUINE! We especially enjoy the "Taste of Ireland" platter - enough for TWO! An authentic atmosphere and decor (there's a reproduction of a thatched house in the middle of the restaurant complete with dining room) and a nice big pub-like bar, Shenanigans.

“Yummy Pub Food”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

A great Irish Pub. Excellent service, attentive and friendly. This is the place for a casual night out for a beer and great pub food. I’ve had the shepherd’s pie and most recently the corned beef Reuben with tasty, crispy fries. Nice atmosphere, love the huge bar.

“The Real Deal Irish Pub”
Reviewed April 12, 2013

It is hard to find an Irish Pub that does everything right, but this place does! Food is authentic and excellent, entertainment is tasteful and fun, the atmosphere is well done and comfortable, and the service is attentive and friendly. I most recently enjoyed the fish and chips which consisted of fresh fried flaky cod and hand cut fries.

“An Irish Jewel”
Reviewed April 11, 2013

Love this place! In March, when most Irish bars are just trying to cram as many people into a place as they can, service tends to suffer. Not in Thatcher McGhee's! I was in several times during the week leading up to Paddy's Day, as well as Paddy's Day. The staff was friendly and the service was good. They are great. attentive and remember the key details that make a guest feel special. For me, the bar team is worth the price of the ticket. The menu is predictable but good and beer selection is impressive. Wish there was more room for dancing; other than that, I love this place!

“Like a Trip to Ireland”
Reviewed April 11, 2013

It starts with the thatched roof and continues inside throughout the many rooms and large bar area.
Cozy rooms, stuccoed walls, fireplaces, beamed ceilings.
Very friendly "Pub" type environment. Always crowded, so reservations are best.
The menu offers a good selection of food for every taste plus an Irish Favorites section.
Portions are large and well prepared. Service is excellent.
Highly recommend for a fun evening.
