“Good...Potential for much better”
Reviewed May 17, 2013

Went here last month and loved the outdoor area in the back. Very nicely done. Nobody in the main dining room, as it was a warm night. The Red Sangria was good and refreshing. The Tapas menu has some nice things, but at the price of over $10 for each small portion is high. Be great to have lower prices so you could order 5 or 6 few of these. They'd actually make more money. The Spanish potato chips were really nice. The short ribs were tender. The beans and carrots that came with it were exceptionally fantastic! The pig loin was just okay...not what we were expecting. The shrimp/garlic app was good, just a little greasy. The stuffed mushrooms with crab had a nice flavor, but they were killed by a very heavy brown sauce they were sitting in. The sauce overpowered them and made them soggy. The potato again, was nice, but covered in too much gravy. The coffee was okay. We had a drink at the bar after dinner and while fine, the bartender was just okay. It's always nice when you feel they appreciate your business---we didn't get a feeling either way. The woman who seemed to be in charge never spoke and looked a little 'I don't want to be here'. This could be a really great restaurant/bar if there was just a tweaking of the food preparation. Everything kinda looked like it was thrown on the plate. The fabulously flavored, perfectly cooked vegetables tell me they know how to do it right.....so do it with all the dishes and perk up the employees! Will return.

“Disappointing...”
Reviewed April 27, 2013 via mobile

I went to Cervantes of Spain with my boyfriend and another couple of friends and, yet we had a good time, we were slightly disappointed overall. One of the glasses of sangria had lipstick stains on it, there weren't any utensils on the table and the waiter didn't come for about 10 minutes, the bread was hard, the sangria was awful and the appetizers portions were really small. On the other hand, the entrées were delicious!!! We all were extremely happy with our orders. I would give another try just for the food.

“pretty good for NJ”

Pretty good tapas here and convient to the train station. Not NYC, but worth a trip for the locals. The shrimp was yum and spicy.

“Average food, nice atmosphere”
Reviewed January 21, 2013

Went to Cervantes with a group of friends. There were 8 people total and the staff was very accommodating to our larger crowd. The wait staff was very attentive (we were the only group in there for awhile though). Had a few appetizers. The flat bread pizza was very good. I ordered a chicken dish that had a sauce (can't remember the name of it) that was very good. I also shared a friends paella. It was just ok. The scallops were minuscule and it was lacking in any flavor, very bland..

“Overpriced and underwhelming.”
Reviewed January 17, 2013 via mobile

Nice atmosphere. Good service. Mediocre food. Friend and I shared Tapas. Very small portions and just average taste. Goat cheese salad with cranberries and walnuts was lacking goat cheese, cranberries and walnuts and oh yea, made with romaine instead of spinach. Dressing tasted like veg. oil and nothing else. Very disappointed. Will take the trip to Newark for good P/S food.
