“Crowded for a reason”
Reviewed April 16, 2014

Steve's is a Bergen County landmark that serves great steaks, at decent prices. The place is always jam packed but the food is worth it.

“Great old time steakhouse, go there every time I'm in the area”
Reviewed April 15, 2014

I love this place! I stop by every time I am in the area, I associate NYC/NJ with Steve's at this point. I see some negative reviews which is ridiculous. The drinks are on point and the food speaks for itself. Go there for a steak, you won't be sorry. Unless your expecting Mortons....

“Maggie sauce is disgusting”
Reviewed April 7, 2014

This place is usually packed, so maybe I am missing something. Parking is a disaster, so be prepared to park a few streets over in a residential area. The place has an interesting, almost rustic charm, but the food leaves much to be desired. Maggie sauce is basically glorified soy sauce, and they use it in LARGE quantities. If you don't like the taste of steak, go here, because you could be eating chicken and not know the difference. This time, I wised up and ordered the sauce on the side (which I did not use), and the steak was tough, despite ordering it medium rare. I wouldn't mind if the place was cheap, but it is not. The frozen drinks are yummy, so at least there's that.

“Old Time Rod and Gun Club”
Reviewed April 3, 2014

Just off Route 17 Steve's is easy to think of as just another New Jersey restaurant. You would be wrong! The first indication is when you pass through the doorway and see the numerous signed photographs of the Hall of Famers. They good back several generations. Once inside you will notice the shotguns and rifles decorating the bar along with the stuffed fish and even a 'Jackalope'.

The place started as a hunting club way back. Steve's wife was even until recently making an appearance.

So what do you get? Essentially New Jersey comfort food. The place is not for everyone but on the whole the food is on the whole eatable. It does take however a number of visits to find a dish you like and then I would recommend stick with it.

The steaks are on the whole very good although some people would find the gravy too salty and the onions overdone. I do not like the mushrooms which to me look like they came from a tin (champignons?). Hamburgers are good and the portions are just right, as is the price.

Drinks standard for a restaurant bar of this type as is this service - not over friendly - best to describe as Jersey! It seems to have a mix of couples and families from the nearby towns, business professionals staying at the several nearby hotels and people coming from the nearby MetLife Stadium.

To be clear you are not getting fine dining with attentive hostesses and inflated prices. Just passable food in a place with authentic atmosphere.

Worth a visit? If you are in the neighbourhood or driving down Route 17.

Good parking. Good prices and passable food. Maybe time for an update of the menu.
