I had never been birding to Cape May before. The staff at the Bird Observatory were extremely knowledgeable and got me going. They helped me find great spots and told me about all of the naturalist-led hikes coming up (WELL WORTH IT). I also bought a bluebird house (handmade in PA) and some other nice mementoes.

The wooden winding pathways are incredible. Birds flock to the area from all over the world. My partner is an avid birder and she loves this spot more than most!

We had a wonderful time seeing the different species of birds, even in the winter there are different types of ducks and the swans are a treat!

We discovered this place by chance when we drove out to see the lighthouse and it was closed! After taking a short, flat hike down to the beach, and passing through some pretty terrain, we made our way back here and had a look around. There is an observation deck where you can see professional birdwatchers using their high tech binoculars and telescopes. The displays are educational and give a great explanation of why the birdwatchers are there and what they are looking for. Most informative was a posting that explained which types of birds migrated through the area and kept a running tally of how many of each species had been spotted. All in all, it was a fun place to take a nice walk, enjoy nature, and take great photos.
