“A real disappointment”
Reviewed September 25, 2012

Friends made a two-night reservation so we could have a get-away and relaxed time. The place was old and musty even if well furnished. The room was tiny, the windows so dirty you really couldn't open them. No view whatever. They had no parking facility so you had to park several blocks away after you unloaded! The husband of the other couple just did not want to stay another day, so we forfeited our pay for the second night and left.
The rate was higher than we had paid in New Hampshire at another, wonderful, B & B, and we really felt cheated when they did not return the second night's fee!
The only good thing I can say for the place was that breakfast was adequate!

Room Tip: Stay away altogether. Even the suite with a sauna sounded terrific but turned out less than pleasan...

I'm very sorry to hear that your visit to The Queen Victoria was not what you had expected. We try very hard to make sure that every guest has a wonderful experience, though we obviously failed in this instance.

The nature of a vintage Victorian B&B is that it is old (1880s in our case), but musty is not something you should expect or have to deal with. To be honest, I can't think of a room that matches that description. With the amount of cleaning that these rooms get (much more than the average home), our rooms typically smell very fresh & clean.

We have 35 rooms of varying sizes, so I'm guessing that you selected your small room based upon limited availability during our busy season or the lower rates associated with the smaller rooms.

Parking IS at a premium in Cape May during the peak season, and only 6 of our rooms (the most expensive ones, I'm afraid) have dedicated off-street parking. For most of our guests, the loading zones that we have and the assistance we provide with maps and descriptions to help you find parking work out pretty well. It usually takes about 5 minutes to find a space and then, once parked, most of our guests are "car free" (and care free) for their entire visit. Even if the Historic Preservation Committee allowed us to pave our yards and gardens to get more parking, it would certainly destroy much of the charm that our guests are expecting at The Queen Victoria.

We celebrated a birthday with a first time visit to Cape May and The Queen Victoria Inn which we reviewed on Tripadvisor. Believe me, we were not disappointed. The staff was very attentative and helpful. Our room was the Prince of Wales in the main house. It was very clean, bright, and spacious with a wonderful view. Breakfast was delicious and different each day. The afternoon tea was delightful on the porch of the Prince Albert house. Guests were interesting and many return every year which we plan to do. Doug and Anna Marie are wonderful hosts and they are always there to assist your needs. Another much appreciated convenience was beach chairs, towels, and bikes to ride. One block to the beautiful beach and two blocks to the pedestrian mall. There is an excellent selection of restaurants within walking distance.

We had a terrific stay at the Queen Victoria. Our room was immaculate and the innkeeper thinks of EVERYTHING! The breakfasts were delicious and you can tell much effort was made for variety and taste!

If you are interested in the the shopping plaza, the Queen Victoria is a prime location for you. Just a 5-minute walk (if that) has you right in the middle of things -- restaurants, cute shops -- and great "people watching" places!

We would definitely recommend The Queen Victoria; and would gladly stay there again next year!

Attending a wedding Labor Day weekend i expected a lot of noise and business. The reservation was easy, pleasant and accommodating given many b&b'd were requiring three day minimums. Pluses were a nice size room (Charles Dickens), breakfast on the patio, towels and chairs for the beach, water and snacks and new bicycles.
A great value, good location and will definitely return. Thank you.

The owners at the Queen Victoria are hands on! You'll get to know them and they are very friendly mad helpful. The rooms are all well kept, but vary in size. Make sure to check the website so you won't get something you don't want. With four buildings there are many choices. Tea is served each day.
