“Welcome Home”
Reviewed December 12, 2012

My husband, sister and brother-in-law just returned from our fifth visit to the Mission Inn which feels like "our home away from home" in Cape May. Susan and Ray are warm and gracious hosts, their staff is friendly and professional, the service impeccable, the decor truly beactiful, and the breakfasts and Janet's afternoon snacks ( especially the cookies) eagerly awaited by their guests. We have been fortunate to meet some wonderful people on our visits, and we enjoy chatting, laughing, reading and even just sitting listening to quiet music in the common area with them . Our reservations have already been made for next year in the San Diego de Alcala room on the first floor which we feel is truly spectacular, and we will eagerly await the relaxation and warmth of our visit before the hustle and bustle of the Holiday Season.

Outstanding is the only way to describe everything about our stay at the Mission Inn! The Inn is immaculately maintained, and offers absolutely every amenity. It is an extra treat to stay during the holiday season -- the decorating is just lovely. The gourmet breakfast every morning is delicious, and late afternoon snacks are always very tasty as well. The Inn Keepers, Sue & Ray, are wonderful!! So warm & friendly, and always helpful with everything. This was our second year staying there to enjoy Cape May's Christmas festivities, and we have already reserved for next year. Wouldn't stay any place else!!

"Welcome home" is how we were greeted upon arrival at Susan and Raymond's house, oh I mean the MIssion Inn. I say this becuase from the very moment getting there until our departure we felt like we were family. From the talks, the warm smiles, the enviroment and yes even Raymond's hugs... we felt like we belonged there. Susan and Raymond are sophisitcated yet relaxed and devoted totally to making the stay the best it possibly can be. The food was very well prepared and inventive. The home was warm and cozy and truley had a fantastic family appeal. The afternoon delights prepared by Janet were just the right touch before dinner later in the evening. By the way... Janet is just as wonderful as Susan and Raymond, focus on total satisfaction of thier guests.

I have to say when I plan a trip I do extensive research in to the stay including reading comments like this. Unbelievably this has been the only place I have ever seen were there were ZERO negative comments. As a matter of fact all the comments were excellent. They live up to your expectations. Job well done! We are planning a trio there in the near future! Thank you Susan, Raymond and Janet... Lenny and Kim

Very caring and nice Inn Keepers. Accommodated our last-minute drop-in on a Sunday night before Thanksgiving (when ALL the other Inn keepers and B and B owners in town seemed to be exhausted from a mass decorating frenzy for an upcoming holiday Homes Tour). Views of the ocean are small as this house is several blocks from the beach, but the lovely large windows with lots of light were great (I find that older homes often can be quite dark). The food, including evening appetizers, was excellent. The "self-serve" feature of the guest "kitchen" area, located in the sitting room, was wonderful with all kinds of teas, coffees, juices and wine in fridge. Very birder friendly, packing us a healthy cold breakfast. The main rooms in the house are decorated with murals of the southwest scenes evoking the Californian mission heritage of this 1902 building. Nice hardwood floors, and decorations that are not over done.

It was a great weekend. Our family was all together for the holiday and occupied the entire Inn. My husband and I stayed in the San Diego de Alcala room on the first floor. It was quiet, relaxing, and most enjoyable. The room was beautiful; my husband and I enjoyed a glass of wine and conversation sitting near a warm fireplace (in our room). We also enjoyed our family’s company sitting by the fireplace in the common area and playing games. Susan and Raymond went above and beyond to make our stay awesome.
Cape May offers a wide variety of shopping and dinning. We walk into town each day. Sometime we walk on the boardwalk other times through the neighborhoods looking at the homes. We had lunch at the Fish Market. The lobster roll and crab cakes were delicious. We also enjoyed a drink at the Jackson Mountain Cafe and the Ugly Mug, an old-time tradition for us. We had breakfast with Santa at the Cape May Inn (Susan made reservations for us). What a wonderful way to celebrate with family!

Room Tip: First floor room was quiet. The room was nicely decorated; cozy, clean, comfortable, chairs near th...

We stayed at The Mission Inn for 2 nights the week before Hurricane Sandy hit. Susan was a wonderful host, the place is beautiful and the food very good. There were always goodies to snack on. We hope The Mission Inn survived the hurricane without too much damage. Hope some day to visit again.

We just finished our first weekend stay at the Mission Inn in Cape May. I say it was our first because without a doubt it will only be our first of many. I have travelled all over the world and stayed at some of the finest hotels on the planet but have never experienced the attention to detail and guest comfort that the MIssion Inn and it's owner management demonstrates. Susan and Ray are both charming and efficient. We stayed in the Santa Clara room which was, like all their rooms, appointed magnificently . From the perfect bed and bedding to the luxurious robes every aspect was all about comfort. Clearly one of nicest bathrooms with the greatest shower imaginable. To say morning breakfast was a gourmet treat would not do it justice. Absolutely delicious and presented with great artistry. The interaction with Ray and Susan as well as with the other guests was very pleasant as was the quiet peaceful comfort of our room. The proximity to beach and Cape May shopping and restaurants was ideal. We capped off our visit with coffee on the front porch listening to the ocean waves and already planning our next visit. New Jersey and Cape May offer four beautiful and distinct seasons. We intend to plan visits to the Mission Inn to enjoy all four. What a great great place run by great great folks!
