“A Great Get-Away!!!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 19, 2006

Cape May is a great family resort town. There is action if you want it or a sleepy, relaxing seaside town if that's what you seek. Fred and Joan will make you feel like you are staying with friends and go over and above with their knowledge and attention to detail. I loved Joan's honesty that the bed was smaller than a typical queen (and it was) but having a television in a bed and breakfast was a treat. Fred's workmanship is seen throughout the house and he is a true craftsman and is happy to chat about his projects. These folks are like old friends from the day you meet them. The location is quiet at night while still only a block from the beach. Off site parking is easy enough to find and you don't really need a car so you can just leave the car for your trip. Go see these accomodating hosts and DO NOT miss the delicious homemade lemonade and cookies at 4PM!! Thanks- Gino & Erica / Bergen County, NJ

Our search for a Bed & Breakfast in Cape May started on the web. We found the Gingerbread House to be as advertised as a well maintained B&B with the hospitality and surrounding venues to make the two day vacation a success. The rates were competitive but certainly worth the experience. Joan and Fred provided us with suggested restuarants in the area and even provided their own special list.

Although the house was fully booked, we were only aware of others guests during breakfast; a well maintained tight house. Access to the house from the beach was about 1/2 a block and the rear exterior shower served us well.

Although we needed to depend on free block parking; you only need to find it once; everything is within walking distance.

Book now before we secure another weekend.

If you are looking for a special place to stay in Cape May, I recommend The Gingerbread House. Our family has returned there year after year for a relaxing beach vacation where every need is met. The gracious hosts, Joan and Fred, are welcoming and helpful, but not interfering. The house is beautiful and comfortable and most of all, particularly clean. Breakfast is superb, as are the treats at afternoon tea. We've stayed at several other B&B's, but always return to the Gingerbread House. It is THE place to stay in Cape May.

Joan and Fred are gracious hosts. Their home is beautifully furnished, immaculately clean, and welcoming. The breakfasts are homemade, the iced tea, lemonade and cookies at 4PM are a wonderful break in the afternoon, and the location near the beach is ideal and quiet. A great place for couples who want a little bit more elegance and personal care than is typically found in a hotel.

We had a wonderful first anniversary weekend at The Gingerbread House! First of all, the location is perfect, and Fred and Joan are wonderful hosts. It's half a block to the beach, 2 blocks to the shops of Washington Mall, and although there isn't private parking onsite, street parking is abundant within a block or two. At first I was concerned that the room that was available to us was on the third floor and had a shared bathroom; however, the room was perfect with a lovely ceiling fan above the bed that kept the room extremely cool, and the shared bathroom was incredible. Fred did all of the teak and the Corian in the bathroom himself as well as throughout the rest of the house. The front doors alone are amazing, and Fred even told me how he crafted the door handles himself out of titanium. The food was very good, and everyone that we met was very friendly. We will certainly be staying at the Gingerbread House again in the future.

We agreed with the previous positive comments. Breakfast was delicious, location is perfect, Fred and Joan let us use the house for the remainder of the day after check-out. We will return!

After our 5 night stay, we can highly recommend the Gingerbread House for good food and a good nights sleep.
We had read Fred and Joan's story on their website, and were interested to see the handiwork of our hosts. We found their home to be beautifully renovated and decorated by two very talented people. Throughout the home is artwork, which was done by Fred's mother, also a very talented lady. They add a beautiful touch to the decor, along with photography done by Fred.
Their home is exceptionally clean, and from the moment you walk in, Joan and Fred make you feel right at home. The B & B is in a great location, half a block from the beach and an easy walking distance to the shops. We definitely would stay here again. Thank you for a wonderful stay!
