I have been to places that accommodate people with pets but this place accommodates pets with people...I would love to keep this secret to myself but I like pets too much! The rooms were clean... beautifully decorated and each room had an out door space to make you feel at home. Our breakfast was served by the sweetest South Philly mom I have ever met...We had a wonderful egg sandwich on a muffin the first morning and there were plenty of juices, fresh fruit and home made cakes...the zucchini cake was to die for! and the coffee was great too! The friendly people and their love of pets will bring us back year after year....I am sure!

This was our second stay at the Highland House - we stayed three years ago with our two dogs and were very pleased with the accomodations and dog friendliness. This trip we did not bring the dogs but enjoyed our stay none the less. We had the Blue & Burgandy rooms with another couple we were with - the two rooms share a bathroom - I wouldn't recommend that with strangers but we were travelling with friends! Each room had a large deck, TV, and mini-fridge. The Blue Room has a double bed and single bed while the Burgandy room has a queen canopy bed. The rooms are clean and have an old style to them but still comfortable. Breakfast is every morning from 8:30 to 10:30 - waffles, eggs, pastries, coffee, juice, etc - it is all good and served fresh.
The house is within walking distance to the beach, has a 7-Eleven nearby, a great pizza place (Brothers) and a community park which seemed to hold events every weekend. It was a craft fair when we were there.
Overall, I would definitely recommend the Highland House - for those with dogs and without. If you do not have dogs, you need to at least appreciate them since they are around!

My husband and I stayed at the Highland House for 3 nights, along with our chihuahua. It's hard to find pet-friendly lodging that's truly "friendly" but the Highland House was great! One of the less expensive places to stay in the area as well, but that doesn't mean a low-quality experience at all.

Our room was a good size (the Green Room) with a lovely deck. The bed was quite comfortable, and breakfast was good. Terry, the owner's mother, was a wonderful hostess. The location is great--although considered West Cape May, the walk to the beach and to the shopping areas wasn't long at all, and there are several nice restaurants withing 1 to 3 blocks. At night, it was nice and quiet.

If you're traveling to Cape May with any furry friends, the Highland House should be tops on your list for affordable and comfortable lodging.

Cape May has been our fav shore destination since meeting in 1989; we've stayed everywhere from motels to upscale B & Bs but in the Highland House we've found a true home away from home. For the last 7 years we've been taking our dog Teddy along - he is a great traveller and always feels at home in the Highland House and walking the streets of Cape May. Dave and his Mom Terry are wonderful people who share our love of Cape May and pets. The location is really not bad - easy walking to the mall and fabulous restaurants in this town, and a 3-5 min. drive to the wonderful state park at Cape May Point. Why leave your dog at home when he can enjoy a shore vacation with you?

We just stayed at Highland House for a weekend with our dog. The place has much to recommend it, particularly for those travelling with furry friends. The innkeeper (mother of the owner) is a lovely, good-natured hostess, who makes delicious breakfasts and is brimming with stories and advice about Cape May. The inn itself is cozy (with decidedly pet-themed decor). It feels like you are staying in somebody's home. The inn is not next to the beach, but it is an easy stroll away. And of course, they are welcoming and good-natured about pets.

If you do book with them, however, I suggest that if possible you avoid Room 3, in which we stayed. The room is perfectly pleasant in terms of decor, but it is located directly below the staircase, and every single step anyone takes up or down the stairs echoes right in your ears. Plus, it is drectly next to the dining room, so in the mornings, you hear every word that gets said, starting at 8:30 am when breakfast is served. I am a light sleeper, so this was frustrating.

Bottom line: this is no luxury hotel, but it is a fun, quircky and very pet-friendly place to stay. But don't get Room 3.

We stayed at Highland House for an extended weekend with our "girlz" and loved it! It was very dog friendly, cozy and clean. Terry, the lady of Highland House, is incredible with boundless energy who makes the best breakfasts ever! She always had a smile and story and we enjoyed our chats greatly! Our "girlz" were very comfortable and relaxed and enjoyed running in the large fenced yard or just relaxing on the deck. We also had the pleasure of meeting David and his four beautiful little pooches. This family truly loves animals and it shows in every aspect of Highland House!

We are looking forward to our next visit to Highland House!

Like going to grandmas for the weekend, nothing fancy but a cozy room for me and Bailey (German Shepard).
My son had a 10 hour leave from the Coast Guards boot camp he loves our dog and I thought with everything he had probably been through he could use some cuddle time with Bailey.
This place is all about the pets, blankets on the couch so she could feel at home, fenced in yard so she could run and play, she even had breakfast with me, made to order with great coffee and part of the package.
Bailey and I brought a nice bottle of Cabernet and had a little party on the cozy front porch.
We took a walk in a small park that is a block away, don't forget your doggie bag :)
The beach and shopping is all near by. This time of year Bailey was allowed on the beach.
