Beautiful beaches! Sounds weird but I hate the grime you walk through in the ocean. Cape May, you get past the shells and rocks left behind by the tide and it's firm smooth sand.

“Great beach!”

Very clean beach, gradual slope into ocean, near restaurants. Bathroom/comfort stations a little far apart so set up a space near one.

“Love this beach”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 19, 2013

We've been coming here for 35 years. Nice clean beaches. They clean them every night. It's a short walk to get to the water. You do have to buy a beach tag. Plenty of parking right in front of the beach. Plenty of Hotels right across the street.

“Best Beach on the Jersey Shore”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 18, 2013

If you are looking for a clean, family friendly, no noise (radios, boom boxes, etc.) beach then this is the best there is on the jersey shore. The beach is wheel chair accessible. Yes, it does require a beach tag, but the prices are very reasonable and variable from a one day tag up to a seven day tag. If the thought of paying for a beach tag is too much for you then go between 3:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. when they no longer charge to go on the beach. I love the beach at this time. It's still warm, the sun is up and most of the beach goers have gone. You are always certain to find a parking space along the boardwalk at this time.

The life guards leave at 5:00 p.m., but (God forbid) a 911 call brings in rescue crews in a very short time for those swimmers and surfers who venture out too far.

At 3:30/4:00 p.m., it's not still really hot as it is during mid-day, but still hot enough and to get your tan on. You can stay until 7:00 p.m., sometimes 7:30 p.m. before the sun starts to set, the breeze picks up and it starts to get cool. You can see the sunset (look to your left) without having to deal with the crowd, parking and other inconvience of going to Sunset beach.

For the price of a beach tag, you can see your money is well spent with life guards placed at short intervals along the beach, clean beach with no trash, clean bathrooms and outdoor beach showers to rinse off before going up on the boardwalk. There is a food stand selling your typical fare of hot dogs, hamburgers, sodas, pizza, water, ice cream, etc. Watch out for the seagulls!! They have adopted to the "human beach life" to the point where they will dive into your food as you walk back to your beach space. They also know how to startle you into dropping your food!

If you do choose to go earlier, you can rent chairs and beach umbrellas at short intervals along the beach. They collect them around 4:00 p.m. Not sure of the price since I always bring my own. Watch for the dolphins. You can tell time by them. They travel from lef to right (not sure of what compass direction this is) around 9:00 a.m. and travel back around 5:00 p.m. They travel in large pods and are a sight to see!!

Walk up the beach to your left and past the last jetty to go to the nature preserve for sea life. There are signs pointing as your approach. You can't beach there!! but it is great place to see starfish, sea urchins and other sea life in small pools. A great learning experience for children and adults alike.

If you should go "late" in the day as I suggest, then you get a chance to watch the surf boarders, the fishermen/women fishing out on the jetties and people flying large intricate kites.

And one small "factoid": true locals and long time property owners like me use the term "shobees". These are Jersey locals who travel down from all points north, even past wildwood, ocean city and Atlantic city for a day. The term came from back in the day when people packed shoe boxes with their lunches to travel to the Cape May beaches for a day. I believe this is a real tribute to the Cape May beaches when locals come from all over to enjoy a Saturday or Sunday!

“Beautiful beaches”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 17, 2013

Cape May has a beautiful beach that is kept clean. You have to buy a pass to enjoy the beach, which may be how it is kept clean. We went in July and the water in the Atlantic off of Cape May was not even 60 degrees, so if you are looking for swimming in the ocean, I heard it is better to go in late Aug/early Sept.
