“Food Great, Service Terrible”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 4, 2006

The food was very very good. I had the Trout Cakes and my wfie had the quesadillas. Both were excellent. However the servie was poor. I had to get my own refills and the time to get the check was long. If possible get the food to go and eat it at your room.

“Best key lime taco!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 6, 2006

For several years now, we have visited Gecko's for lunch - mostly for their great key lime taco, although the burritos, quesadillas and even barbecue sandwiches are also good. The other desserts sound tempting, but that lime taco is pretty unique and hits the mark!

“Best Southwestern Food We've EVER Had - Even in New Mexico!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 10, 2006

Gecko's is one of our favorite restaurants - in Cape May or anywhere else! We dine at Gecko's at least 7 or 8 times during each 2 week visit. The food is both inventive and authentic - some of the best Southwest we've had, even at truly famous restaurants like the Pink Adobe and Gabriel's in Santa Fe. The food is obviously freshly prepared, the vegetables and salsas are always colorful and fresh. If you are looking for the typical "Mexican" where the entree of choice (burritto, soft taco, hard taco, enchilada - doesn't matter the ingredients are always the same!) is served on a plate heaped with the ubiquitous greasy rice and beans drowning in an oily sauce and smothered with cheese - that is served in the chain "Mexican" restaurants, you won't find it at Gecko's - stay with the more pedestrian fare offered in those places. But, if you want to try a true taste of the Southwest, try don't miss Gecko's!

More kudos for Gecko's - the wait staff and management are always the best - upbeat, friendly, accomodating - and consistent from year to year. Service is always awesome!

“Not so good :(”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 12, 2006

My husband and I were looking forward to a wonderful lunch at Gecko's after reading they were voted best Mexican in Cape May in 2005. I think they must be the ONLY Mexican in Cape May because they certainly weren't the best. We ordered chips and salsa for 4.50, yes we had to pay for chips and salsa at a Mexican restaurant. The salsa was mediocre and the chips tasted like they were from a bag. My husband ordered the skirt steak burrito, which came with no beans or rice, just a burrito. The steak was okay, but the burrito as while wasnt so great. I ordered the crab enchiladas and was presented with a plate of two enchiladas filled with a 95% cream chesse, 5% crab filling that was pretty tasteless. We were in a rush for lunch, or we would have sent it back. I will not be visiting Gecko's again or recommend any friends or family visiting the area do so.
