Great, simply prepared seafood. You can taste the freshness. No frills cafe, but super popular. Plan ahead a few days in advance and make reservations.

Dear Bob P from Philadelphia,
Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a well edited little review of our tiny no frills cafe. We have been proudly no frills for 34 summers now and we are all super happy that you posted this comment! Thanks for being such a great and loyal customer - we appreciate your business for sure!
Cheers,

“excellent seafood”
Reviewed August 21, 2012

Good friends took us to Louisa's and we were thrilled. The flounder was fresh and flavorful, the crab cakes (4 small cakes) were almost entirely crab and perfectly cooked. The only disappointment was the tasteless bread (although no Cape May restaurant seems to have good bread).

The servings are perfectly sized for reasonable appetites. You won't have any leftovers and you will have room for one of their delicious desserts.

Its a very small place and the tables are very close together. This is not the spot for a quiet romantic dinner. Come prepared to chat with your neighbors and enjoy!

Dear ElizabethB67,

We all have read your sweet review and wanted to tell you thank you so much for taking the time to write! The flounder is from the local docks and we all love it too. Flounder is such a fresh and light fish. Our Portugese bread comes down to us from Newark and they actually use a Portugese yeast starter for this bread. We have not as yet found a source for a chewy whole grain bread - wish we could! Thank you also for your kind words regarding out desserts - they are made each and every day in our teeny tiny kitchen in the back.

We hope that you will come back and visit us all again soon!
Best wishes,
Louisa

“Louisa's Restaurant”
Reviewed August 20, 2012

I've been coming to Louisia's for over 20 years now. Cape May has changed, as has has life- but one thing NEVER changes - and that is this charming little restarurant and the loving preparation of its inspirational food. We plan our trips to Cape May every year around dining at this one spot. If you haven't been, then you have no idea what you are missing. From the adorable painted little table tops to the chalk board menu that changes nightly, highlighting LOCAL fresh fish and farm stand produce. If you go early you may even be lucky enough to get one of Louisa's fresh desserts still warm from the oven - nothing is more comforting. Many years ago now, Louisa and Doug published a small paperback cookbook of some of their treasured recipes which was made even more special by the illustrations of their young children. My copy is dog eared from moves and use and I'm hoping that they will have another copy available for me to purchase when I visit this September. I live far away from New Jersey now, but whenever I get nostalgic for a trip to Louisa's I pull out this cookbook and recreate the magic in my own kitchen.

My one unfulfilled wish - a website and a Facebook page for this wonderful place!

Dear Bocageinfo AKA Madeline from Baton Rough, LA,

Hello to you and thank you for the absolutely delicious review you posted!!!! You have been coming here for 20 years!!!!! WOW, that is just so cool. You brought a little tear to my eye mentioning the cookbook we wrote and the illustrations of our young family from back in the day.

We have been chatting with customers on twitter and a website and Facebook will probably be up and running at some point!

It was just so wonderful to read a review with so many well thought out details as yours is. We have the MOST WONDERFUL customers and they are always saying such sweet and dreamy things to us about our food, the little hand painted tables (painted by yours truly!) and the local fresh fish we serve each night. Have you been over to the Chocolate Bar we created? You will really love it.

So Madeline, many thanks to you and we are hoping you are enjoying a wonderful culinary journey wherever you may path takes you. There is so much amazing food out there!

Have fun and eat well!
XOXO Louisa

“food/service”
Reviewed August 6, 2012

We had reservations this past saturday 8/4. Breifly, they did not open the wine, I guess they think everything is twist off now. I had salmon my friend had swordfish, there were four of us and I eat at a great deal of places the food had NO taste. everything tasted the same. even the dessserts. I would not reccomend this place at all. I was there a number of years ago now I know why. tourist trap and we were not tourists.

Hi gene g,

Thank you so much for stopping by on August 4th - Cape May was just bursting with families having so much fun at that time and we appreciate that you were out and about in August. We have so many people visit us from Haddonfield, NJ each summer and what a great group they are.

We are unable to open your wine, gene g, because the NJ liquor laws do not allow us to since we do not hold a New Jersey Liquor license. We would LOVE to pour you a glass of delicious wine but alas, we are not permitted. Thank you for bringing this up and allowing us to respond to this topic.

We value each and every response and thank you for the time you took to post a review on trip advisor and hope you continue to enjoy Cape May and all there is to see and do here.

Wishing you the very best,
Louisa
