Description: The Blue Pig Tavern serves American cuisine-nostalgic, simple and fresh. Executive Chef Jeremy Einhorn has implemented a delicious farm-to-table menu featuring fresh produce, herbs and eggs from our very own Beach Plum Farm, located less than 2 miles from the restaurant! In the warmer months, dine on our wonderful, secluded patio. In the cooler months, cozy up to our magnificent dining room fireplace. The Blue Pig Tavern drives its name from a gambling parlor sited at Congress Hall in the mid 1800's. Earlier still, in the 1700s, Elias Hughes operated a tavern for whalers on this site. It was the first tavern in Cape May.

We thoroughly enjoyed a recent meal at the Blue Pig. The wit staff was excellent. The barley and quinoa salad was incredible and tasty. Our dinner was very good and the atmosphere with the real wood burning fireplace made it a great spot on a cold winters night.

My wife and I spent four nights at Congress Hall in Cape May for our Christmas vacation and ate all our meals at "The Blue Pig Tavern", including Christmas dinner. We thoroughly enjoyed everything about both Congress Hall and The Blue Pig. The food was excellent and service was friendly and attentive. We could not have asked for a more Christmasy experience and will stop at The Blue Pig whenever we're in Cape May!

We hadn't been to the Blue Pig in years. There weren't many options for dining on a Wednesday night in February so we decided to try it again. I will say up front that after last night's experience we will never go back.

First, even though we had a reservation (and the restaurant was fairly empty) we were taken to our table but then made to wait in the middle of the restaurant while two additional place settings were added to our 4 top. Why start taking a group to a table if it isn't ready?

Service was horrible. We got our beverages after about 20 minutes and our salads were delivered in a reasonable amount of time after that but then service became non existent. It was about 50 minutes after we finished our salads before we got out main courses. It was difficult to determine if the problem was our waiter or the kitchen or a combination of both. Our waiter needed to find another job because he certainly didn't have what it takes to be a waiter. Throughout the entire meal he kept telling us what he was going to do for us but never did it. For example, he would stop by and say I'm going to refill your water. He told us this four times before he actually brought the water. At the end of our meal he told us he was going to clear the plates and then walked away. Go figure. A very strange approach to service.

A few words about the food. We all agreed that the farm salad and the dressing was delicious. Four of us had this salad. The bread was also good but served in a partially cut loaf which required each person to handle it to get a piece. One person in our party had a turkey burger which was dry. One had the Blue Plate meatloaf which was a very small portion and just "okay". Two had the Pappardelle Bolognese which was rated as tasty. I had the fish and chips. The fish was a generous portion but greasy. The fries were greasy and too salty.

The restaurant was so dark we had to use flashlights to read the menu. In our opinion that is a little too dark!

Our waiter, although friendly, demonstrated very well that he is ready for a new career. Another reviewer wrote that it shouldn't take over an hour to be served pub food, and that was our experience last night. The waiter seemingly fawned over other tables that ordered drinks and wine. Non-drinkers can be excellent tippers too. Too bad he didn't find that out from us.

Very nice restaurant where you can sit back and relax even when its cold outside. The fireplace is nice an cozy, the food all tasted great. The staff were very friendly. The only thing I wasn't to happy about were the desserts, They were very tiny and the food is pricey. This is more of a couples place to dine not much for kids.
