This is a great place for fresh seafood. Drinks are good as well. Try the fresh local caught flounder. Get there early or be prepared to wait.

We bought a take-out and ate on the deck. We both had the seafood combo (lobster, shrimp and scallops). The food was cooked to order, was very tasty and was exceptionally good value. The seagulls can be a nuisance - our neighbours were 'robbed' but, fortunately, we were unscathed. With food this good and prices so low, it is no wonder that the Lobster House is so popular.

After a one hour wait we finally got a table in a very busy intersection, near the dish clearing station. By this time, and a long wait at the bar, we already knew that the beer selection was very limited and settled for seltzer water, which comes in very small glasses and is sold by the glass.
The meals were very disappointing. The crabmeat was served without the wine sauce we expected, the potato was burned and dry and the lobster was too salty. We didn't bother to taste the veggie of the day.
Obviously the place is too big for the cook to be able to prepare individual meals, it is also to busy to have a simple conversation since everyone seems to be trying to talk louder than their neighbor and is yelling.
At least they had the decency not to charge us for one meal.

I've lived in Cape May Point since 1986 and dine at the Lobster House weekly (during the winter months). The Lobster House has consistently delivered excellent fresh seafood despite its perfect opportunity to become a tourist trap. Yes, the crowds are insane during the summer and they do not take reservations. But if you can visit during the quieter months it's the perfect taste of the Jersey Shore. Sit at the magnificent old wooden bar and enjoy one of the best martinis ever, served in a reasonably sized glass that doesn't slop all over you. Enjoy the complimentary cheddar dip and crisps. Have a dozen half shells from the raw bar. Migrate into the dining room and order from a splendid selection of fish and shellfish, including truly delicious New England style chowdah. Split the gigantic lobster tail and share the sides. I have never had anything less than a tasty dinner, excellent service and a nice ambience. It's nice to see a restaurant that has not caved in to the high prices and marginal food so easily foisted upon the tourist trade. Stop by the fish market on your way home to continue the treat. Enjoy!
