It used to seem that you had 3 choices for accommodations in Cape May: A quaint and charming Bed and Breakfast; a "Mom and Pop" family owned Motel (which more times than not proved to be very dated); or a trip back in time to the rather pricey Congress Hall. Fortunately this time we came cross the Ocean Club, which offers a very modern and comfortable stay.
The hotel was extremely clean and well maintained. The bed may have been the most comfortable I ever slept in at a hotel. The bathroom, while small, was beautifully decorated and up to date. The staff was extremely courteous and helpful - as soon as you enter the pool area they bring towels to you and are happy to set up an umbrella if desired.
With regards to complaints about the air conditioning, I found it did a great job keeping the room cool. It was no where near as noisy as those thru the wall units that many hotels have. By setting the fan control to "on", rather than "auto" you don't notice the noise of the compressor turning off and on as much.
While an on-site gym would have been preferred, they do offer use of nearby facilities for those so inclined. Yes, there is only 1 elevator, but we never had an issue waiting for it - we were on the 6th floor. Rates are a little on the high side, but reasonable when you consider what you are getting and what the competition is charging.
All things considered, we would highly recommend the Ocean Club and will certainly consider it again if our travels bring us back to Cape MAy
