“Wonderful time at Henry Sawyer Inn!!!!”
Reviewed September 27, 2008

I'm shocked that there's not more reviews on tripadvisor for this inn, because the place is great! Barbara and Mary run a really nice B&B, with nice rooms, loads of antiques, tons of snack choices during tea time and breakfasts that are tremendous!

For instance, today's tea time included-
Different kinds of soda
Two different kinds of wine
Many types of fancy teas
Homemade Chocolate Chip Cookies
Fancy Shortbread Treats
Homemade Orange Cream Cookies
Biscotti
Goldfish Crackers
Cashews
Pretzel Goldfish

Breakfast included-
Assorted Cereal
Coffee (Decaf, Regular)
Many types of fancy teas
Fresh bananas, strawberries and melon
Homemade muffins (shaped like little bundt cakes)
Strawberry, cream and granola parfaits
Homemade whole wheat waffles (in the shape of 8 hearts connected to each other)
Eggs cooked to order, if you requested

As you can see, the innkeepers work very hard to please everyone and during breakfast, Barbara made sure to introduce us all. We were made to feel like we were a part of a big family, sharing a family meal. It was so nice!

The inn itself is gorgeous and it's kept in immaculate condition. There are so many antiques, more than I've seen at any other inn. They even have a baby cradle that was hand-made by Abraham Lincoln's dad!!!

I suspect the reason for so few ratings on here is because the innkeeper doesn't talk about tripadvisor to her guests, which I can respect. Barbara focuses her time on making sure her guests are comfortable and considering that the Henry Sawyer Inn has been packing in guests for 16 years and counting, I'd say she's very good at what she does!

Thank you for a wonderful stay!

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Henry Sawyer Inn in the summer of 2007. Overall, I recommend the place - it was a really nice Victorian house, and had a good overall look and ambiance. I have a couple of reservations, but they are minor gripes for a lovely stay.

We ended up staying in the top suite. It had more than enough space, was comfortable and cool (which was important, since it was super hot when we went to Cape May). We had a fair amount of space, and the decor was nice and quaint. It wasn't a masterpiece of design, but it was pleasant, and the furniture was comfortable and well thought-out. My one complaint is that the bathroom was tiny, and had a teeny bit of a mildew smell. But, that's a pretty minor gripe.

Some of the best things about the Inn are outdoors. There's a nice porch, where you can sit, drink beers, and laze away part of an afternoon. The outdoor area also has beach umbrellas you can use, a clothesline (more important than you'd think if you go to the beach every day), and an outdoor shower (ditto).

The location is pretty sweet - you're close to the beach, and the touristy open mall area - maybe 10-15 minutes walk away from both, and it's a pleasant walk (lots of Victorian houses to watch).

We both found breakfast to be pleasant, and pretty tasty. There's tea in the afternoon, which is less impressive. When we were there, one thing that struck me was that the woman who ran the inn seemed quite nice and helpful, but a bit standoffish. But that's just a personality thing - some people come across as really warm and outgoing, and others don't.

In short, I recommend staying there. It's pretty, the location is great, and you will have a good time. Is it a five-star hotel? No. But it's a nice B&B in a fun town, and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay there.

We stayed for two days - it was O.K. Clean, good food for breakfast. Big complaints - when we went up to our room for an afternoon nap, tours went on seemingly right outside our door - had the feeling of being sent to our room. One of the lightbulbs blew out in the room and went down to ask for a new one - got an annoyed response that they were trying to get ready for a tour. Would not stay there again - and in fact have only venture to try another B&B this year - got a bit leary of the whole B&B experience.

We had a wonderful stay at this B&B. The house is very clean and well maintained, and the interior decor is tasteful Victorian with elegant wallpapers and beautiful antique furnishings. There is a lovely living room and a front porch with plenty of comfortable chairs. The house is centrally located within minutes' walk to the beach and the Washington Mall and is surrounded by quaint homes and quiet side streets. Breakfast was excellent, prepared and served hot for each guest. The atmosphere was casual and the hostess was very sweet and unobtrusive. We will definitely stay here again on our next visit to Cape May!

We stayed for a weekend at the Henry Sawyer Inn during the holiday season. The entire house was immaculate and decorated beautifully to portray the Victorian era at Christmas. The parlor was a comfortable, quiet place to relax and enjoy a book by the fire. Breakfast was delicious and made fresh for each morning for the guests to enjoy in a beautiful dining room. Above all, the inn keepers, a mother and daughter, were very hospitable and willing to answer any question. They also took interest in each of their guests making all of us feel at home. We loved our time at this bed and breakfast and would go back in a heart beat!
